I love the nod to a nautical flair it gives the dress. I have a strapless dress in that material and I think its not quite stiff enough to wear in strapless. But I think it would make a great casual dress in the style you have shown. Also, the dress I have is a tad long. I wonder if they've shortened the hemline as a reaction to unhappy wearers? I'm a just above average height (5'7"), and the dress hit me mid calf - somewhat unflattering, I wish it would have been just below the knee.
