It’s quite bittersweet, posting about the Jil Sander fall collection, as it’s Raf Simons’ last for the label. As exciting as it will be to see Jil Sander back at the helm, Simons has been nothing short of brilliant during his tenure. Even sweet rosy pinks look sophisticated under his direction. See the complete show, including some stunning LBDs, at Style.com. (Wonder where Simons will turn up next?)

floriole jar coöpted for pencils
I’ve dedicated myself of late to decluttering: getting rid of old magazines, books, clothing, and trying my best to keep new stuff from undoing my efforts. Nonetheless, I’ve accumulated a small collection of glass jars. Yogurt jars (from London), pôts de crème containers from Miette and Floriole, and a French school glass from Labour & Wait. Each is charming and meaningful, but to stay true to my mission, I decided to put them to work holding sugar cubes for my daily coffee + corralling office supplies on my desk. As office supplies are another addiction of mine that accumulates, this practical solution might come in handy ….

I love everything about this Margaret Howell fall look. From the flowy skirt (with pockets!) to the vneck cardigan, to the french blue shirt, to the loafers, it’s very very me, both as an ensemble and for the components. A trip to London is in order: until then, see the complete show at nymag.com.

London Fashion Week vacillates between outré (bring on the crazy hats!) and proper. No surprise that I prefer the proper, and Emilia Wickstead, launching ready-to-wear this season, is one to watch. (So sorry that I didn’t drag my son into her shop last Thanksgiving. It had been a long day.) See the full collection at Style.com.
