Country Home closes

country home magazine (folded march 2009) | simple pretty

Country Home is closing, effective with the March 2009 issue. The latest issues had been ultra-thin, and I’m not suprised. Sadly, I think this trend of magazine closings is just getting started.

Believe it or not this used to be my favorite magazine. But the last few years they really started looking fuddy duddy. They never evolved. It seems like they were still publishing the exact same styles from 1995. Still makes me sad though…..

OH NO! I’m so sad. (And, I’ve got a subscription until like 2010. Yikes…hope I get it rolled over into something good…)

We don’t get this here but there are lots of mags which are low on originality and thick with advertising, I think a cull of the mag shelf would only be a good thing!
Certainly having zillions of gorgeous blogs available on demand has meant that I less magazines than I used to! I find many home mags read more like a shopping catalogue with very little editorial content. If I want to go shopping I don’t need to pay nearly £4.00 for a catalogue! t.x

Are you serious? That makes me sad. I recently learned that my favorite magazine Cottage Living is ending as well. My mailbox will be lonely very soon…. =(

I’m really sorry to see Country Home close as I felt their design sensibilities were more realistic than some of the clinical looking magazines-magazines that would do shots of rooms that were practically bare with a few placed objects and lots of white cold space. No personality.

If these magazines go away no opportunity to approach them for PR for your art.

Such a bummer! I really liked Country Home’s features. I think you’re right about the magazine closure trend, but I wish more magazines would find a way to continue to provide new content online — otherwise we’re going to be left with a big hole in the shelter mag industry.
