We recently spent a cold, rainy weekend in San Francisco (I always bring rain with me when I travel). One of my must-see, must-eat-at stops was Tyler Florence’s new restaurant, Wayfare Tavern, and so undaunted, we headed over on our first night in town. Designed by Tyler Florence and Lori Yeomans, it’s a gorgeous space: dark and cozy and a perfect spot to escape the weather. (I was envious of those who had tables by the fireplace.) As our stomachs were running on Chicago time, we arrived at 4:30 and were fortunate enough to snag a seat at the chef’s table, giving us a great view of the kitchen goings on as well as a preview of what I’ll be ordering the next time I’m in town. (Deviled eggs, fried chicken, and if I’m terribly adventurous, bone marrow.) This time, I couldn’t pass up the Wayfare burger (with fried egg) and fries: the perfect bar food dinner in a most elegant setting. You can see menus and more photos at the Wayfare Tavern website. And word to the wise: unless you’re feeling extremely lucky, or like to eat dinner at 3:30, make a reservation.

Ooh! Lovely to hear how much you enjoyed it, Jane, as I’ve been dying to go! Hope you had an all-around lovely, cold & rainy SFO weekend. :)
we almost went here last week too but ended up at Bar Tartine instead. Adding it to my SF must do list though! Thanks for the tip :)
So sorry we failed in the weather arena. But fun to hear about the restaurant. Maybe we will gear up and get out of our rut. Thanks for the photos.

Wow, I really loved this post. Thanks for sharing. My family and I are going to be in the San Fran area in the next week or so. We may have to stop by =)

I’ve walked by Wayfare twice this week – drooling both times! I had the burger at Wayfare when I made my first appearance there in November. Nom nom nom!
i LOVE the dark interior! Great to see good designs out there being a designer myself.
