I need this book: photo from University Press of New England

I’m not going to lie: most of my two days in Boston was spent eating and shopping. But on Friday morning, I walked over to the Boston Athenaeum for a peek inside. Visitors are permitted to tour the first floor, which allows you to view the current exhibit, currently “Always Delightfully Cool”, but I was quite fortunate that the computers were down, as a graduate student who was manning the checkout desk offered to escort me to the fifth floor (pictured on the cover of the book above). I was in heaven. The space was filled with light, and was, well, stunning. I tried to look very carefully, and let it all sink in, and I’m still trying to justify membership, just so I could sit on the fifth floor and dream. Or maybe go to a tea. The Athenaeum is now on my list of Boston “must sees”, and it’s very close to the top. If you’d like a more detailed tour, make a reservation for one of the Art and Architecture tours given on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

A book about the athenaeum is on my amazon wishlist now – here’s hoping that Christmas is good to me.

Wow! I’m sorry to say that during my years living in the city, I have never been. I will put this on my must-see list, too!
