What I’m Reading

domino, house and garden magazines | simple pretty

Last Thursday’s Lucky magazine purchase didn’t work out so well for me. Read and done within the hour. Even the shopping awards didn’t cut it. Too old, I guess. (Keri Russell? Still adorable.) But Friday’s purchase House&Garden was a great replacement. Started out by salivating over Doughnut Plant’s coconut cream-filled square doughnut, learned about some plantings at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, checked out Thomas O’Brien’s home (and added his Aero Studios to my NYC bookmarks), admired Gwyneth Paltrow’s kitchen and yoga/Pilates studio, and then pored over H&G’s NYC shopping guide. You can follow along online (John Derian! Moon River Chattle! Ed’s Lobster Bar!), but my favorite part of the article was the photo of all the business cards and ephemera, artfully arranged. An inspiration board for sure. Yes, I ripped it out to save. I haven’t been to NYC in ages, and my list is getting so long, that there is no way I’ll be able to cover it. But I’ll sure have fun trying when I do. Anyone up for going to the 2008 Stationery Show and then working on my list?

There’s a cold wind blowing here today, and Chicago may not get out of the 50s. Time from a/c to heat? That would be around 36 hours …. I’m not complaining. By the way, if you missed it on Friday (like me), I highly recommend that you download this week’s This American Life, titled “How To Talk To Kids” …..
