Here I “am”. Sitting in my car at soccer practice – in July. It was such a fall scene to me, looking out over my dashboard, that it felt bittersweet. Even the sunlight seemed fall-like. Not yet! I’m not ready! But time marches on. At least I’m catching up on my This American Life podcasts. I’ve knocked off two this week so far, and my son has practice today and tomorrow. (I meant to bring my camera to take some Wednesday pictures, but forgot – so the above picture was taken with my iPhone.)Making good on my longing for better handwriting, I even worked in a little Spencerian script practice yesterday. Back-to-school always feels like a fresh start ….. don’t you agree? So perhaps it’s good to revisit the resolutions at this time of year. It’s certainly easier to eat healthy foods in August! There’s a terrific recipe in the latest Real Simple for fettucine with mozzarella, tomatoes, onions and olive oil. I could eat the marinated tomato mixture with a spoon. Wait, I did. You can find the recipe here. We’re entering tomato bounty season, and this is a great, not to mention extremely tasty, use for them. And speaking of recipes, one of my favorite cookbook authors is Susan Branch. I fell in love with her handwritten recipes, her lovely illustrations, and her view on life in general. How about the quote on her homepage by Leonard Cohen?
Ring the bells that still can ring/Forget your “perfect” offering/There is a crack, a crack in everything/That’s how the light gets in … Susan’s website was updated this week with a story about a couple who visited her at her Martha’s Vineyard home. It’s called Pancakes. Read it – I hope you like it as much as I did.Have a great Thursday!
