Field Trip Monday

Well, after a weekend of soccer, I was ready to go. Somewhere. Anywhere. And so, Monday morning, we set off for Milwaukee’s Third Ward.

First stop? Broadway Paper. (see photo above) Had to check out the Christmas cards. Just a preview, because I can’t commit to Christmas cards before Halloween. It’s my little rule. As always, I was amazed and delighted at Broadway Paper’s selection, and discovered another cute little card line. Oddball Press drew me in with their super-cute printing on the “big jerk” birthday card. (I want my handwriting to look like that!) Also, I love the “gator” thank you card. Every time I go to Broadway Paper, I see something new and cool. I love that!

Then, it was off to a new destination: Harlequin Bakery. I went just to try the macaroons, but ended up with a much larger order. They make buttermilk donuts , and there were three left, just calling our names. (You’ll find them tucked into the corner of the box on the right!) Throw in an apple tart, and some cookies, and it’s pretty much a dream stop for me. Note to self: going to a bakery right before lunch is not the best time, if you’re hoping for any amount of control. Harlequin is now a “must stop” place whenever we head to the Third Ward. Next time, I’ll be trying their brioche. With our bakery boxes in hand, we headed over to the Wicked Hop for lunch. Two chicken cordon bleu wraps, and a tequila lime chicken wrap (that would be mine, with a side of fruit, but I sneaked some of the boys’ fries), and we were ready to head back to the burbs. Of Chicago. Not counting a 10 minute run to the JCrew outlet for some ultra-cheap tees. I love Field Trip days …. breaking out of the rut is energizing. Bring on that fall weather that is so overdue! I’m ready!
