My baby is 11 years old today. I hope that his day is extra special (and that he likes his presents!) He has requested Magically Moist Chicken for dinner, which basically is chicken basted in mayo, then dredged in bread crumbs. Will do. I’ve also ordered a birthday apple tart for him, because it looked far too good in the October issue of Food & Wine.
Lucky child that he is, September 16 is always a gorgeous day in Chicago, and 2008 is forecast to be no different. As a January baby who usually marks another year with a snowstorm and sub-zero temps, I say he got the better deal for sure.
Happy birthday, J!

Wow. I have a lot of love for Graeme Black after seeing his spring 2009 collection. You should take a peek too.

I don’t know if it was revenge of the bees or what, but this weekend couldn’t have been worse weather-wise. As I type this on Sunday afternoon, it’s still raining with no end in sight. We made a valiant attempt to visit the Renegade Craft fair on Saturday: umbrellas and rain coats at the ready, we were in the car, driving down the Edens, when traffic slowed/stopped. A quick check of the radio told us that the highway was closed up ahead. Time for plan B. We turned around and went winter coat shopping for our son. (Because that delightful weather is up next.)
I feel for the crafters who came from near and far to set up and show this weekend. It couldn’t have been fun sitting in the elements from noon ’til 10 pm each day. And so, today’s post will be a virtual Renegade Craft fair. These are the booths I had wanted to visit. I hope you’ll click on over and join me (from the comfort of your home which I hope is dry!):
- Made by Hank Katie has three bags with my name on them, for which I need to finalize payment and delivery when she gets back home. I was really hoping to meet her and see the fully-stocked “shop”.
- Sycamore St Press You know I cannot pass up a cute letterpress booth!
- Donovan Beeson Love these labels and would like to see more …. thankfully, she’s a Chicagoan, so hopefully there’ll be another opportunity.
- The Small Object Sarah was one of the first artists I discovered through the wonderful world of blogs. I was hoping to see the ultra-cute bandit bag in person, but everything she creates appeals to me.
- Charlie and Sarah Cute British-themed tees and such.
- K Studio I love line drawings, and these pillows and accessories are charming. (The bags are especially cute.)
- Diana Sudyka Her bird drawings are beyond. I’m smitten. (While you wait for the Etsy shop to reopen in October, visit her website.)
- 16 Sparrows From Donovan Beeson and Kathy Zadrozny, retro/cool stationery products.
Happy clicking, and happy shopping! See you tomorrow.

Good morning from rainy, rainy, rainy Chicago. Thought I’d start the giveaway early as many of you may be sitting at home logging computer time just like me :)
Charleston Weddings magazine is full of gorgeous photos and inspiration for your wedding. (Or if you’re like me, you read it for stationery, flower and party ideas.) I’m giving away a brand-new/unread copy of the Fall/Winter 2008 issue.
Here are the rules:
- Leave a comment (one per person; no anonymous) at this post before 11:59 pm cdt Tuesday, September 16.
- I will draw one winner from the comments and announce the winner in a post on Thursday, September 18.
- The winner must contact me by Monday, September 22 at 5:00 pm cdt with his/her mailing address. If I do not get an email, I will re-draw.
Good luck! See you tomorrow ….
