Shop Visit: La Garçonne, NYC

Proof that Instagram lies: those of you following my #collegetours photos no doubt have envisioned an idyllic romp through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, replete with leisurely lunches and afternoon shopping. Nothing could be further from the truth: the tone for our odyssey was set on day one when we left our morning school appointment in a frenetic rush to catch a taxi to our afternoon school appointment. Lunch? At the ever popular Vending Machines. (Menu: Pop Tarts + Coke! The height of nutrition and sophistication.)

However, there were still moments of bliss, and stores that I refused to miss out on, even if it meant rearranging the day (read: skipping a tour). One of those stores was La Garçonne, on Greenwich Street in TriBeCa. As I’ve spent untold hours scrolling through their online inventory, there was no way I was missing the chance to shop in person. As you would imagine, it’s a gorgeous, minimalist space. Amusingly, it turned me into a temporary maximalist, as I wanted everything. (I can’t wait to go back next month when I’m in town: the store director, RiQ, mentioned that they will have The Row pre-fall sometime in May!) A few of the La Garçonne wares I’m currently coveting:

As for what I bought, I chose a very Sofia Coppola-esque cashmere sweater from La Garçonne Moderne (the in-house line, and it’s all très utilitarian luxe®, as you would expect):

Oh sigh! They are the bomb. Them and Margaret Howell and I could lock myself in my closet and never leave.

A bit of hyperbole, but you get my drift:).
