I prefer to purchase baked goods (there’s something comforting about limits) but Quentin Bacon’s photography had me at cover photo. I can’t say no to an apron full of brioche, so I’m looking forward to spending some time digging into (and baking from) Sarabeth Levine’s new cookbook, Sarabeth’s Bakery. If you need a little more arm twisting, there’s a recipe from the book for chocolate chubbies at Amazon.com, and a Sarabeth blog, Goddess of Bakedom, to boot. I’m guessing you’re in now, too.

I spotted London textile designer/artist Daniel Heath‘s work in October’s World of Interiors magazine and fell in love with his collection of hand printed bespoke wallpapers. The circus themed collection is so delightfully whimsical and yet pleasingly luxe: it has me wondering where I could work a little wallpaper magic into my own house.
If you’d like to see more of his work, some of the designs are available as cushions through The Shop Floor Project, and he recently collaborated with Retrouvius for an “Off the Floor” exhibition featuring his upholstery fabric (the Retrouvius project, showcasing reclaimed materials in conjunction with Heath’s designs, was the WoI feature that led me to his website).

suite one
Mulling over holiday travel plans, and in a moment of inspiration, decided that The Reform Club, a property I’ve had my eye on in Amagansett, NY, would make a most excellent spot for a Thanksgiving week getaway. The rooms are amazing and feel homey (in a “I wish that my home looked like this” kind of way.) Hoping that it’s off season in the Hamptons. Would like to peek around unfettered by crowds.

cover, September/October issue
A new magazine has charmed/earned its way onto my short list: Vogue Living Australia. Not only is it beautifully designed, but the mix of stories is nearly perfect: features from Australia to entice (like I need more enticement to visit) combined with US and European stories that make me feel in the know. Here are a few gems from the most recent issue:

john derian
An in-depth look how John Derian lives. Lots and lots of beautiful photos. I am such a fan of his.

Lime Wood
Lime Wood, an English luxury hotel that has me longing to get back to London asap, and then head out to the country for an escape. Was drawn in (again) by the gorgeous photography, and most pleased to learn that Ben Pentreath had a hand in the architecture. (No wonder I liked it!)

urban crop
An Australian flower company, Urban Crop, where you buy living, breathing plants off a truck! (Simply gorgeous and love the concept!)
Keep an eye out: this issue should be making its way to US newsstands in the next few weeks. (The only drawback to Aussie magazine love is the delayed gratification. The magazine is worth every penny. Can’t wait for the Nov/Dec online preview.)

Happy Friday! It’s been a warm October (which has made for a better-than-usual cross country season) but fall is rolling on. The ash tree pictured above is leafless at this writing. And the maple, while still mostly green, seems to go from leafed to bare in the blink of an eye. Not ready.
On with the Five:
- dandelions
- Seasons Change
- English apples (I love this soooo much)
- sunday
- Vacation Goodness
On Monday, our house is down to one sport, and the days will slow down a bit. Hooray for that. I’m ready to spend a bit of after school time with my buddy. See you then.
