Are you a Southern-based entrepreneur looking for a better brand exposure? You’ll want to read more about Garden & Gun’s Made in the South awards. Open to artisans from the South in food, home, style, sporting and “etc” categories, five winners will be profiled in the December/January issue of Garden & Gun magazine. The grand prize winner wins a trip to Charleston, SC in January 2011, as well as helpful business consultations with Leapfrog Public Relations and Stitch Design Co. (Hooray for the ladies of Stitch!) If you’re interested, click here to look at the application and don’t procrastinate: entries are due August 1. Good luck!

Happy Fourth of July! We have been experiencing weather utopia this week, and it’s been so delightful: windows open, eating outdoors, having a relaxing glass of rosé while you watch the world go by …. you know, all the joyful activities one typically equates summer with, until Chicago’s usual hot + humid weather shows up and I lose interest. Well, not this weekend! Bring on the cookouts + fireworks! I am ready!

C has to be one of my favorite magazines. Not only is its design beautiful; it’s full of fantastic homes + fashion+ shops + style ideas. I never fail to find a few new things to add to my “when in California” list. C recently re-launched its website to coincide with publication of the summer issue; it’s great to have an online source for some of my favorite articles, like Suzanne Goin’s picnic. Check it out: hopefully it will tempt you to pick up a printed copy. (Long live magazines!) C may be about California style, but it’s available nationwide.
