This year, I think I was excited about my hotel as I was the Stationery Show. And no wonder, since I splurged on a room at the Crosby Street Hotel, part of London’s Firmdale group of boutique hotels. When I got to my room and saw the view, I didn’t want to leave. Floor to ceiling paned windows will do that.

Every detail was considered from room decor to service to food to stationery to the-best-hotel-hairdryer-I’ve-ever-experienced, and it left me completely charmed. (Even brought back a stripey pencil for my buddy.) Can’t wait to go back.

The styling of Bottega Veneta’s resort collection is perfection: comfy shoes, gorgeous handbags and utterly wearable (albeit pricey) clothing. See the full show at Style.com.

chocolate editions
So glad that stationery weekend coincides with New York design week. That meant I got to see the Outer Borough Food Exhibit at Partners & Spade, chock full of gorgeously packaged, interesting food products. I picked up a neapolitan chocolate bar from Chocolate Editions. Carry on restrictions prevented me from purchasing the ginger syrup or red wine vinegar (and boy did I want to). Hopefully, I’ll work a little internet magic and figure out a way to get these items shipped to Illinois soon. (Not to mention, I still need to try the Chocolate Editions Strawberry Stripes bar. Sounds perfect.) A few more pictures from the exhibition are at my Flickr set.

fettuccia ribbon
Thought I’d wrap up with a favorite shop: Angela Liguori/Carta Inc. has the loveliest goods (and her booth is always a wonderful bit of serenity in the madness of the show). I adore her cotton ribbons: lately I find myself reaching for the fettuccia cotton ribbons pictured above. The perfect width for all-purpose wrapping. I’m also completely smitten with her francobolli book line, a collaboration with Chicagoan (and stationer extraordinaire in her own right) Bari Zaki. Fabulously appealing combinations of colors and stamps. I found myself completely besotted with the gray book with Czech stamps pictured below. Angela was kind enough to take it down so I could get a better photo (I think I was trying to commit it to memory on the spot). Thank you, Angela!

see? the stamps are perfection.

Simple, elegant notecards from Regas New York. Loved everything about them. Wouldn’t they make lovely hostess gifts?
