Loving the work of Savannah artist W. Gerome Temple. (Came across one of his illustrations hanging at No. Four Eleven.) His work is so whimsically linear, which I love. Peruse Mr. Temple’s website to see his full range. I’m particularly fond of his special projects portfolio: there you’ll find work for The Book Lady (photo 7) and The Historic Savannah Foundation’s Market Ball (photo 11), a birth announcement (photo 8), and a poster for a show at Cafe Metropole (photo 9 and appeals to my minimalist tendencies).

Elegant with a sense of humor is the perfect description for this rehearsal dinner invitation by Santa Barbara studio Lilly & Louise. Designer Leslie Lewis Sigler came up with a playful take on the “rehearsing” of dinner for her own wedding. She wanted the guests to feel formality on the front of the invite with the placesetting instructions, and then get in on the joke with the text on the back. (The invitation assures the guests that the dinner has little to do with rehearsing and everything to do with family, friends, food, and drink.) I love it.

The Institute of You, developed by Trish Papadakos, is a service designed to help you maximize career satisfaction. An eight week program, it consists of mailings, emails and text which break down the difficult work of achieving career goals (and figuring out what those goals are) into practical exercises and tasks. Trish developed the program as her MA thesis for Design Studies at Central Saint Martins. (I feel I had a front row seat as I followed her progress at Flickr.) She was kind enough to send me the first mailing so I could get a feel for the program. It’s practical, no doubt influenced by Trish’s own questions during her year of mostly self-directed study. The exercises in the first packet have me thinking, and it’s so gorgeously designed, which definitely acts as a carrot for me! I’m going to apply my abridged program to my own search for what’s next.
Are you intrigued? Check out the Institute of You’s website, where you’ll take a short quiz to figure out if you’re a starter, climber, or seeker (stage of career) and sign up! You can also read more about the program’s details online (pdf).

Fantastic design work from McKenna Kemp. Just my style (love the Virgina Woolf book covers: they’re so clean) and another subliminal reminder that I need to visit Serenbe. See more deliciousness at McKenna’s website and blog, Odds x Ends.

Hello, Friday! So glad you’re here, and here’s hoping this weekend is a bit less drama filled than last weekend. I’d like to do nothing more than watch “our” robin sit on its nest. (In my opinion, the maple tree in our backyard is the perfect location to raise baby robins.)

Should you happen to be in Chicago this weekend, please stop by Greer tomorrow: Wanda Wen has a new book out, titled The Art of Gift Wrapping, and will be at Greer running gift wrap demonstrations from 1-3 pm. Ms. Wen also helms Soolip, an amazing Los Angeles paperie. So stop on by, say hello, and learn something new!
See you Monday. Drama free :)
