I know, I know. Today is Halloween. It’s still October for a few more hours. And really, I tried to wait. But when I was at Target a couple of days ago, I saw my favorite egg nog in the cooler. And because I know they run out at times (and also because the expiration date was Dec 06) I bought one to “save”. That plan did not work so well, because yesterday at noon, on a perfectly warm and sunny fall day, I became obsessed with having a chai tea/egg nog latte. Five minutes later, I had persuaded myself to open the container, and so the season begins.
Yes, it really is that good ….. my recipe is to brew one bag of Tazo chai tea, and top with 1-2 inches of steamed egg nog. And it has to be Horizon.Happy Tricks-or-Treats! Just getting through today’s NYTimes (at 10:45 am). I enjoyed “Good Taste Takes a Holiday”, featuring foodies’ Halloween favorites. Bonus: Michael Pollan has okayed high-fructose corn syrup for your treat basket! I think I’ll be making the Caramelized Brown Butter Rice Krispie Treats very soon. And there’s also a nice Maira Kalman video feature. Now, I shall see you again tomorrow ….

Halloween is tomorrow, and my mind is in January 3 mode. What do I mean by that? Well, every year, after the Christmas decorations and the tree come down (and I’m being incredibly generous with a January 3 date, because by the 28th or so, I’m ready), I start in on “Mission: Minimalism”. The closets get pared, the paper piles get smaller (although in calculus fashion, they approach zero yet never reach it), and the house gets cleaned. I’m not sure why my brain thinks that now would be a good time to tackle this project, but it does. Perhaps it’s because I recently read (somewhere?) that we use only 20% of the stuff we have in the house. Which means I’ve got 80% that could go. I’ve already pared the cardigan stacks above, so no, I am not skilled at this by any means. Never mind that stuff is arriving to wrap and tag, and wrapping is my favorite holiday activity of all (that and Christmas cards, of course), and I need a “theme” before I start to wrap. Which means more acquiring, in direct opposition to paring. You may be thinking that a therapist is what I need for Christmas, and you may be on to something …. Don’t miss the Halloween classic, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”, tonight on abc.

Hello, all. Fall seems to be slipping by (can it really be the last weekend in October?) and since it’s my favorite season, I’m trying to hold on. The photo above was taken on my daily Cooper walk yesterday. The sky was so blue; so fall. Here are the five:
- mosaic
- green blue
- Into the mist
- Harvest
- Disappearing Fall Color
The last photo was taken by Jimtown. I discovered Kim’s photos last weekend. She really captures the beauty of fall in the midwest, whether it’s a truck, an old barn, or just a great capture. Thanks, Kim! You have a new fan.Today’s post is my 100th at Blogger, and I just want to say “thanks” to all of you who visit. I look forward to the next 100 posts in this space. If there is something you’d like to see more of (or less of?) please leave a comment today. Have a wonderful weekend, and I’ll see you back here on Monday…… and once again – go Red Sox!

I am tired today. We drove 1 hour + to our son’s soccer game (they won; I froze). The upside was I was wide awake when we got home at the late, late hour of 9:30 and was able to see quite a bit of the baseball game …. (by the way, has anyone else noticed how much Josh Beckett resembles Jeff Tweedy?) Nonetheless, I have some great recommendations for your online shopping today. On iTunes.
i.} Download yesterday’s Fresh Air interview with Steve Carell. I caught it 15 minutes in myself, and so have just put it on my iPod for this morning’s workout. He seems refreshingly down-to-earth, and Terry Gross leads insightful interviews. free
ii.} Mad Men is finished for season one. The finale, The Wheel, is spectacular. I’ve already watched it twice. $1.99
iii.} And you’ll need Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright”, which plays at the end. Great song. $.99At HOWdesign’s website
iv.} The December issue has a feature on business cards. I love business cards (Have I mentioned that?) While I wait for Print’s December regional design annual to hit my Barnes & Noble, this will be a nice distraction. My favorite category?
Gorgeous, of course.I’m off to ellipse and listen to Terry and Steve. ‘Til tomorrow, then.
