Something about spring always has me listening to a little less NPR and a little more music. For me, that means Chicago’s 93/XRT and exposure to songs that I missed over the fall and winter. (For just as surely, once September hits, I’m all about NPR again.) Adding new music to my iPod keeps me out there running. Here’s a selection from my May 2007 playlist that guarantees I’ll be running faster than I should. Nevertheless, I enjoy the push:
- When I Wake/The Changes a Chicago band to boot!
- In View/The Tragically Hip
- See the World/Gomez
- Seven Nation Army/The White Stripes
- Young Folks/Peter Bjorn and John (at the Apple store/Michigan Ave today at 2)
- Hate to Say I Told You So/The Hives
By this point in my run, I’m gasping for breath, and the playlist segues into Timbaland and Justin Timberlake – a total change of genre that we’ll save for another day.
What are you listening to?
By the way, today Travis released a new album, The Boy With No Name. Very impressed with the 30-second snippets – I’ll be buying it.

Another Monday; another weekend filled with baseball and soccer and a piano recital. Spring is flying by.
Sunday was a good newspaper day – both the Tribune and the New York Times had great magazine sections. The Tribune’s website is awful – I can’t find the magazine section online – you’ll have to believe me when I tell you that it featured some great, if over-the-top, outdoor entertaining stories. On to the Times: not only was there an interesting feature about celebrities and socialites who are being dressed by Vogue magazine for tonight’s Costume Institute Gala (are you going?) but there was also a fun story in the T:Style magazine about Cookz, a website that intends to publish recipes in pictograms. So far, there’s only one recipe – for chocolate chip cookies – with more to come. (One step pictured above.) So cute, and it would make a fun children’s cookbook. Though who am I kidding? I’d buy it for me.
Oops! I almost forgot the story about New Orleans style c0ld-brewed coffee. Now I’m craving some. I need to order the concentrate and try it.
Happy Friday, again! It’s Cinco de Mayo weekend, and that means a margarita (or two)is in my future :) It will most like be a post-soccer margarita.
My Flickr food Five, whether you’re a margarita or mint julep drinker:
- Brunch
- waxed paper
- Bumpy Cupcake Cut in Half!
- cinnamon rolls

Have a wonderful weekend. I hope that the weather lets you get outside to enjoy it.

As you may know, I love magazines. I have tiers of interest: some I buy at the newsstand (to ensure that I get them ontime + in good condition), some I subscribe to (either because they reliably arrive on time or because I am able to wait) and some are flip-throughs at the bookstore. While I was flipping through the current issue of HOW, I spotted Lindy Sue’s laundry kit. The products were designed by Warren Group/Studio Deluxe graphic design, and have that cool Martha-esque feel for your laundry needs. My favorite item is also the smallest: the Come Clean Guide, pictured above ($6) but the Come Clean Kit: Travel Edition is a close second. Check out the Lindy Sue product line at lindysues.com. And a big thanks to R for enabling my addiction!

Happy Wednesday! I skipped yesterday’s post as I was on a field trip to the Art Institute with 132 4th graders. It was a gorgeous day and I’m glad to have gone. I’m also glad to have it behind me for another year.
Have you had a chance to see the May Port2Port shop update? Maria launched two new projects: on the count of three, the second installment in her photographs & prints project (a lovely collection that runs until August 1 – my favorite is the coffee and chocolate pic), as well as the lavish lilac card set (there are only 19 sets left as of this writing). I ordered my lilac set yesterday right when I got home. I didn’t want to procrastinate and miss out: peonies are my favorite flower, but there is nothing like the scent of lilacs in the spring air. Our lilacs (pictured above) oare on the verge of bursting open. I can’t wait, and I’m looking forward to my Port2Port package to celebrate.
Update: Martha Stewart Crafts now has a website, complete with online ordering.
