Lunalux

Have you ever checked (and re-checked) a website to see if anything is new, and then move on to a different site to check and check and check? I have.  One website that has received my cyber-stalking love is Lunalux, a cozy letterpress studio and paper shop in Minneapolis. I was ever hopeful that if I kept visiting, they’d somehow sense it and upload pictuers of the cards I coveted but couldn’t access due to distance. Yesterday, prompted by the upcoming stationery show, I clicked over to Lunalux after a lapse of at least six months and was thrilled to see many updates, including a new blog. I’m glad to get a flavor of the studio shop and of Minneapolis. Horray for vicarious living! So excited for more stationery news from the show!

Also, thank you to Robin Sherwood for passing along this happy news: Victoria magazine is relaunching! The first issue will be Nov/De 2007, on newsstands in October. Read the press release at hearst.com. (and feel better, Robin!)

I miss Victoria magazine – I eagerly anticipated the August “shops” issue – you were certain to discover a few new business to fall in love with, and make plans to visit. One shop I found in this manner is frecklefarm. I ordered the catalog in 2001 after reading about it, and was delighted by the photography and selection of objets. Last week, I serendipitously rediscovered frecklefarm in its new life on the web. Founder Robin Sherwood is now blogging her stories, news, and finds. In August, there will be a frecklefarm bedding line, and I believe that today she is updating StyleNews. You can subscribe to the StyleNews e-letter at her site: check the April 26 entry for details. On a personal note, I can say that Robin is an absolute delight to “talk” to. I look forward to her new designs.

Hope your Mother’s Day was restful. Pictured above are some irises we planted last summer – loving the spalsh of purple!

Friday Flickr Five

Spring is churning along. We haven’t had rain in a while, so I spent some time watering the gardens yesterday, and weeding. I also took care of one procrastination item – I ordered two big urns for the front steps. It’s a bit of delayed gratification while I wait the 2-3 weeks for shipment, but I have purchased geraniums and sweet potato vine so when the urns arrive, I’m ready to plant. Progress!

Here are the Five:

  1. cotton candy pink~
  2. Electric city
  3. A Little Bit of Magic don’t miss the story!
  4. Poached Egg
  5. mother’s milk

Have a wonderful, relaxing, and peaceful Mother’s Day. Cheers to all the mothers! See you Monday.

Ending Procrastination: Motivation in Print

I am a gifted procrastinator. At the moment, I have three four home projects that I am stalling on. Some are big, like remodeling the kitchen (and the contractors are helping me procrastinate!), and some are small, like picking out pots or urns for the front steps, and selecting a slipper chair for our bedroom. Wouldn’t you know it – today’s NYTimes home section has a feature on slipper chairs in its Personal Shopper feature. A nice selection, complete with online slide show: it’s given me the jolt I need to follow through. My favorites are the Martha and the Ralph Lauren. I’m a sucker for tufting. Any opinions?

A Taste of Summer

Yesterday, humidity arrived, and with it, the first taste of summer. I felt it as soon as I got five minutes into my run, and the humidity lingered through mid-afternoon, until the lake breeze started to blow – one of the perks of living close (ish) to the Lake Michigan. I was inspired by the breeze and the light to go outside and take a bunch of pictures. The one above is of our side yard, looking far more lush than a few short weeks ago, and it will continue to develop.

Speaking of photos, my cousin passed along the name of another excellent photographer to check out. Laurie Frankel’s portfolio features stunning kids, still life and food photography. You know how I love food shots! Plus, she’s featured in the latest Communication Arts magazine. I ran right out to buy it – great stuff. Check out Laurie’s website: while scanning her list of clients, you’ll realize that you’ve come across her work at some point. Inspiring! Thanks, tt!!
