Fall fashion week starts on Friday in New York. That’s right – Fall 2007 – and I’m still on the hunt for spring fashion. Most of my wish list isn’t anywhere near the stores yet. It’s the curse of January. I’ll just have to temporarily think ahead to fall, and then return to the hunt.
Isaac Mizrahi, with couture at Bergdorf Goodman, and fast-fashion at Target, will be launching his own online store in February, and will also preview his fall couture line online. I’ve been trying to find photos of his couture line since it launched, with little success. Now, both the Fall 2006 and Spring 2007 slideshows are available here. Picture above is the darling 4Star from his spring collection. Mizrahi is also starting a new feature for his magazine, Isaac’s Style Book. (Issue #2 comes out in April, but Issue #1 is available for download here.) Have you seen Isaac’s show on the Style network? My favorite segment is “Sketches and Answers”, where he answers fashion questions from the audience, and sometimes draws a sketch. The new feature for the Style Book is “Sketch-a-Dress”: you describe your dream outfit, that you cannot find, and Isaac will sketch his favorite for Issue #2! Here’s the rub: I need “Sketch-an-Event”, because I would love to own the beautiful dress he made for Selma Blair on his old show for Oxygen. You can see the dress, and rent the episode, “Designing Selma Blair”, for $1.99. Of course, I have it on tape! Sketch me a movie premiere, Isaac, or something similarly appropriate, and I’ll buy that dress! See more of Isaac’s website here, and stay tuned for online shopping!

This week’s installment of Bakery Monday keeps it local (for me, anyway). Three Tarts Bakery, in Northfield, IL, has a wonderful pastry case whether you’re searching for a breakfast treat, a small snack, or a birthday cake. I love that they will personalize a birthday cake while you wait – kind of a reward for procrastinating! Three Tarts also serve a variety of sandwiches, soups, and salads at lunch. After my usual chicken artichoke sandwich, my go-to dessert used to be the coconut cake, and it is outstanding. But then, I tried the chocolate “Country Fair” cake. Soooo rich and soooo yummy. Thankgfully, they serve cake by the slice, but it’s also now our birthday cake flavor-of choice. If you live in Chicago, you must go! Located at 301 South Happ Road, off of Willow Road (a stone’s throw from the Edens). Enjoy!
Good morning! Today it’s brisk outside, but sunny – and rumored to get above freezing. Hooray!
Here are the five for this week:
- my feet are cold isn’t this sweet?
- kitchen love I am totally besotted with MAV’s blue table
- saturday morning great color
- don’t wait up
- Cheeky Wren love the bird with the string ….
Hope your weekend is just right – see you Monday!

I know – Christmas was just one month ago, but you have to look at Jennifer Murphy’s new decorations collections. Produced by Midwest of Cannon Falls, there are three adorable vintage-inspired collections: Christmas, Halloween, and Frozen Charlottes (read the story about how Frozen Charlottes got its name). I am totally smitten with three items from the Christmas group: “Star Light, Star Bright” (pictured above), “Pearl the Gifted Balancing Pig”, and “Welcome Home”. Jennifer is taking orders at her website now, and the collection will ship in May. Ah, May – when it will be warm – or at least warmer. Check out all of the ultra-cute decorations here, and if you like what you see, you may also want to mark your calendar for February 6, when she launches her latest collection of handmade bears and animals for Valentine’s Day. Thanks, Jennifer!

I am in love, love, LOVE with the new kate spade “behind the curtain” site. (the clocks keeping time for New York, Paris, and Kansas City are fab!) My favorite feature is “things we love” – not only are there fun things to click on and discover, but you can submit something that you love, and perhaps it will make it onto the site! Hmmmm, what thing that I love should I submit? I’ll have to ponder that today. Something about kate spade’s marketing really appeals to me – I got sucked in way back when Laura Stoddart was their paper goods illustrator. I still have the most charming catalog for kate spade paper chock-full of her illustrations. It was more like a very cute and small book than catalog to me! I also have the kate spade playing cards that she designed: got them out to play Solitaire last night – the site must have inspired me to dig them out. Check out kate spade’s studio site here.
