Some days just seem to scream out “do something”, and yesterday was one of those days. Warm, sunny, delightful fall light …. so we got over to the forest preserve for a walk. Of course, I had to promise the 9-year-old that it would be 15 minutes out, and then back. But it was a half-hour well spent. Leaves underfoot, branches and sky above …. fall all around.
Okay, it’s time to “fall back” this weekend. (What will you do with your extra hour?)
My Friday Flickr Five are:
1. blue buds
2. pumpkin patch
a quick thanks to photobird for #s 1 & 2!
3. comfort food
4. The Rooster
5. old kent road / 07
Also, tonight on abc is “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” at 8/7c – celebrate its 40th anniversary by watching.
That’s all for today! See you Monday, when no doubt I will wake at 5am suffering from time-change lag.

Today was one of those perfect fall weather days for me – calm, cool, almost-ready-to-mist-but-hasn’t-yet. A great day for a long run. I loaded this week’s This American Life podcast (“fiascoes”) and started off. Let me just say right now, if you haven’t subscribed yet, you must leave this page right now, go to iTunes and do it. (then come back!) Listen to the Peter Pan story. (it’s the first one) If you can make it through without laughing out loud …. well, let’s just say you cannot. To anyone who saw me running and laughing, and looking a little crazed, now you know why.

Fabulous mail day yesterday, simply because my copy of Print Magazine’s Regional Design Annual 2006 arrived. It’s full of inspiring graphic design, and I end up spending far too much time looking through it, given that I do not work in graphic design. Anyway, Paper + Cup, one of my most favorite letterpress designers (see my 9/29 post), is featured for their PTA work. So adorable – so perfect, and it feeds my current love for silhouette as well. Don’t you agree? How do I get a pencil? or an eraser? or those stickers! Swoon!
Get yourself to the grocery store and stock up on butter, because today, Ina Garten’s new book, Barefoot Contessa at Home, is out. I ordered my copy from Amazon this morning, so I have until Thursday to acquire my cache de beurre. Once the book arrives, I will analyze each dessert to decide which will be the “best” (judging from the photos, of course), and then plan my perfect dinner from the recipes. With a little fortitude (and yes, for me, cooking can be an adversity), perhaps something will even be prepared! If you’d like to meet Ms. Garten and discuss your rising cholesterol levels, she will be touring the US this fall. Chicagoans, our chance is December 7 at the Crate & Barrel on North Avenue.
