We spent a nice family day in Chicago yesterday. Started the afternoon at the newly re-opened Chicago History Museum. I went especially for the Christian Dior exhibit, Dior: A New Look, which was definitely worth the trip. Most of Dior’s evening gowns would work today – the afternoon dresses? Probably not. The rest of the museum was full of info – watched television coverage of the ’68 Democratic National Convention, learned about the World’s Fair, went to the Blues/Jazz room, walked through an old streetcar. After we had our history fill, went out into the neighborhood to check out Greer’s new location. Lots and lots of cute stationery! Will have to go back. Finished off the day with take out from R.J. Grunt’s. Soooo good – we devoured every last drop. Ah, a perfect day in the city.
Okay – add another addiction to the list – Flickr. I’ve got it baaad. If you ever need to lose track of a morning, this is your ticket. I’m slowly branching out, adding photos to my account, and viewing more and more. Sorry if I end up sucking you in as well. Be warned!
My favorite Five Photos of the past week:

And of course, you can check out my latest, much more amateurish work here. (I’m having fun, though – it’s opened my eyes!) Have a great weekend!

What happened to fall? This is what my back patio looks like today – and the snow showers haven’t let up yet! Enjoying the moment is challenging for me today, but I’m trying. I fought the urge to cocoon, fired up the Mini and went down to Gale Gand’s new restaurant at the new Westin Hotel in Wheeling, which opened today. Very cute! Took home a turkey/bacon/avocado panini, and some pastry, because I cannot avoid the stuff. (Pain au chocolat? you can’t leave it in the case!) Gale Gand was there as well – odd how tv makes you think you “know” people. I think Gale’s Coffee Bar will be a fun place to add to my take-out repertoire. Definitely not your typical hotel restaurant. And now, back to the heat vent to warm up. (It was 36 degrees outside during my expedition.) Bye!

Found another photographer to love yesterday. Liz Shuman takes simple, yet eye-catching photos that capture the world so well! Nothing more to add, just go to her website or flickr account and check it out, already!
My nightstand is going to crumble from the weight of the books I need to read this fall. Today, Adam Gopnik’s book,Through the Children’s Gate: A Home in New York, is out, and it follows his wonderful book Paris to the Moon. I loved that book, featuring essays about life in Paris, especially his story about French take-out food. (It was served to him at the counter on real china, by a very confused “why would you want to eat at home?” restaurant.) I’m looking forward to reading about his New York experiences, as I often wondered what a childhood in New York City would be like.
Hey Chicagoans – Gopnik will be at the Lookingglass Theatre on Sunday, October 22, speaking about the book.
