Hello, all! It is day 3 post-Lasik for me, and although I am a slave to eye drops and ugly sunglasses for a while, I am glad it’s over! Unfortunately, I’m not quite up to my usual rambling, consumerist self. Therefore, today’s entry will be quick: Design*Sponge has opened a shop today, and there are quite a few interesting items. My favorite, of course, is Port2Port’s entry – Regal No 1-5 handmade prints. Six different items in all, with 10% of the profits going to charity. Check out the shop here. See you tomorrow, hopefully feeling even better!
It’s Lasik Day! And consequently, I am a nervous wreck, because that is how I roll. Therefore, today’s five are my current favorite ways to distract my mind.
1. Stephen Colbert’s Word from 9/27 Deals with the Clinton/Wallace Fox News “controversy” (courtesy of YouTube) Five minutes of satire bliss.
2. Justin Timberlake’s “My Love” Hey, listen before ye judge – it’s a pretty good song, and if you need workout music, it’s even better. (Go to iTunes for the 30 second preview.)
3. Photobird’s Brownie picture Just looking at it makes my mouth water!
4. Minhee Park’s wedding feature in Martha Stewart Weddings Ms. Park is the designer at Paper + Cup, one of my favorite letterpress studios. The invitations are so creative and so gorgeous! I’m sure the pictures don’t do them justice. I would love to see one up close. When I first saw the feature in the magazine, I squealed with delight. (Yes, it’s true – I did.)
5. Repeat #1 – truly, it is that good. The student has become the master.
Have a great weekend, all – I’ll be seeing you (sans glasses and complications, I hope) on Monday!
I wish I could say this was my “get”, but thanks to Mav of Port2Port Press, I’ve found another artist to adore. Cindy Jaswal, from Vancouver, BC, has the most charming and captivating art at her web site, Cedar Seven. I am a big bird fan, and I just love the bird art featured in her portfolio. (The chickadee drawing in particular speaks to me.) One print, Fox Sparrow, is available at her Etsy shop, but really, you need to see more. Check it out here. Oh, and check out her Flickr photos. Thanks again, Mav!
As for Project Runway, I’m relieved that Laura has officially made it to Bryant Park. Yes, Uli’s dress looked very “Elle”, but Laura’s photo captured her viewpoint quite well. It’s like Laura is being penalized for being 43 and elegant! Both have a signature look that they’ve cultivated over the season’s challenges. Personally, I’d take Laura’s low-cut cocktail wear over Uli’s print-and-roping dresses any day. Not sure how this is all going to end up. You can certainly see the producers’ hands in this season.
I saw these adorable dog treats a couple of weeks ago at the Down Town Dog, a local dog store that carries lots of cool treats for your favorite dog(s). Roll Over Red Rover, based in Novato, CA, makes the cutest dog treats ever! The packaging is delightful, and the treats are soooo cute – they would make the perfect gift for your doggy-loving friends. My favorites are the “Go Dog Go” and “Fetch” bags. (Holiday designs will be coming soon.) My dog would suck down the contents of a bag in five seconds, I’ll bet. (Would she even chew?) Check out the goods here.
The fall tv season is upon us, and I am busy keeping up with my favorite shows. Studio 60 is wonderful, and written so that I’m constantly having to pay attention so as not to miss something. The Office never fails to make me laugh, and of course, there is the Monday through Thursday commitment that is Jon and Stephen. And then there’s Project Runway. Nearing the end of season three, we know who the final four are, but the final three designers are the true focus of the final shows. Viewers get to know them as they design their runway collection through home visits by Tim Gunn, and seeing their runway show during Fashion Week. (all four have showed collections to avoid a pre-airing spoiler) My favorite for season three is Laura Bennett – 43, pregnant with her 6th child, and very consistent designer of elegant clothing I would be happy to own. This week, New York magazine interviews Laura, and you can read it on their website. The interview only makes me like her more! How great is that?
