Food TV

Today is a busy day for me – I have an appointment to see if I qualify for LASIK surgery.  (Cross your fingers that two straight weeks with glasses has had a purpose!)  So for today, I’m keeping it simple:  nothing to buy, nothing to long for, just an interesting article at the New Yorker, written by Bill Buford.  All about the Food Network, and its popularity of late.  Is it “Food Porn?”  And yes, if you’re a Rachael Ray fan (I am not – put me in the Ina Garten camp, please), she’s featured.  Read it at newyorker.com.

Friday Five Minus Four

Okay, I admit it – I hadn’t the foggiest of what the Friday Five would be this week, so it’s taking a week hiatus.  Blogger’s Block strikes!  Instead, while browsing the internet (once again), I found another lovely artist that I thought was worth sharing.  Papered Together is based in Minneapolis, and I found her stationery soooo charming.  Lovely use of vintage illustrations.  The elephant to-do list, and the lunchtime hellos look like fun, don’t they?  Check out Papered Together’s Etsy shop, and her website at paperedtogether.com.

And as for the Office, loving Ed Helms on the show – and I have a feeling they’re going to string Jim and Pam out all year – and how did they make me feel sad for Roy?  and how many times can I use “and”? Have a great weekend, all!

File Your Dream House

Okay, okay, the blog is getting a little consumerist of late – perhaps it’s the ramp up to the holidays (or perhaps it’s just me) – but you have to see this!  If you are constantly virtually redecorating your house, or planning to redecorate, these adorable file folders from Sesame Letterpress will help organize your desires.  The letterpressed folders will hold your kitchen, office, bedroom, bathroom, living room, and yard dreams, as represented by magazine tear-outs.  My set is on its way, and the kitchen and bathroom folders need to be extra tough to handle what I’m fixin’ to stuff in them!  The folders are available from See Jane Work, or at your local hip stationer, if you’re lucky.   (I spotted them at Oblation Papers while in Portland.)  And if you don’t like planning, perhaps you’d prefer the Procrastinate? set.  Check the folders out here.

Cookie Magazine

I am slowly graduating from reading parenting magazines.  My son turned 9 last weekend, and thus I don’t need volumes of information about potty training, ear infections, and playdate etiquette.  My Child magazine subscription ended recently, and I am not renewing.  However, I still pick up Cookie at the newsstand.  I think the magazine’s layout is what captures my interest: it reminds me a lot of New York and the defunct Vitals magazines – cool typefaces, and interesting layouts. (Perhaps it’s also the luxury products Cookie features inside – ah, aspirational parenting!)   Cookie is a gorgeous read, and today, their website has been updated, helping it look and feel more like the print version.  I like it!  Check Cookie out online here.

Emma Rose Papery

While browsing the internet yesterday, I came across yet another darling, inspiring letterpress designer.  Eszter Rabin started Emma Rose Papery in 2005, and her work is beautiful!  Focused on weddings, she offers seven “signature collection” choices, as well as custom designs, and save-the-date/other ephemera choices.  Check her work out at emmarosepapery.com. (Love the line-drawn rose in her logo!)  Not getting married any time soon?  Like me?  You can revel in the photography …. my favorite is this save-the-date.

Wonder what I’ll find today?
