Handbags, purses …. call them what you will, I am always on the hunt for the “perfect” one. You know, the one that has a spot for everything, doesn’t become a big mess, and yes, still looks cute. It can’t be too big, either, even though I’m drawn to that size, as big bags overwhelm me! This fall, I am in love with Tod’s “T” bag (piccola size, please)! It has compartments galore, and won’t be ubiquitous. It’s pricey, though – the reason I do not own it! Enter Coach. Their Legacy collection is up this morning, and it is full of pocket-y designs. (The collection is based on Bonnie Cashin’s original designs for Coach.) I love the Legacy Leather Shoulder Bag, as well as the Legacy Leather Satchel. I will have to go check them out next week, as they arrive in stores 9/25. All the while, I’m still pining for the elusive Hermes Birkin or Kelly – each crazily expensive, each crazily unavailable. Any suggestions?
Flickr. Love it – keep finding new and unusual photos, and through those photos, interesting artists. Here are my five favorite photos, discovered this week. (the photos may be older than that!)
1. Dinner Yummy, with a beautiful napkin!
2. Cupcakes Cosmic Bakery sea urchin cupcakes!
3. John Derian I will write more about John Derian soon, for now just know that I need to get to NYC to see this shop!
4. Pink Captures late summer hydrangeas.
5. Lace Port2Port’s September card set, released today.
Enjoy the photos, and enjoy the weekend. (It’s my son’s birthday tomorrow and he always gets beautiful weather, the lucky kid!) See you Monday …..
One of my favorite stationery designers is Felix Doolittle. Based in the Boston area, artist Felix Fu creates the most gorgeous watercolor illustrations for your writing/inviting/labelling needs. Notecards are printed on a luxe heavy card stock. I am craving the return address stickers, but cannot decide on my favorite design! (roses? chicken? artichoke? help!) I’m hoping that the holiday collection, that premieres September 30, will have a design that I can commit to. It would give Christmas cards that something extra, and save my hand from writing the return address. A win-win! And the holiday cards are sure to delight as well. Check out Felix’s newly redesigned website at felixdoolittle.com.
And now for the Fashion Week update: Loved Michon Schur’s collection! And did not love Michael Kors. I find myself over-critiquing him – kind of turning the Project Runway tables on his work!
Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain …. I need a laugh. Thankfully, the NYTimes has anticipated this. This morning, Nora Ephron’s Op-Ed column, “What to Expect When You’re Expecting Dinner,” brought a smile to my face. (Loved her thoughts about salt at the dinner table, by the way.) If you want to read more Nora Ephron after laughing through the Op-Ed, her latest book, “I Feel Bad About My Neck”, is also quite funny, and can be finished in about two hours. Can’t work up the energy to turn pages? Wait until October, when the audiobook, read by Ms. Ephron, is available.
On to fashion: Check out Narciso Rodriguez and Monique Lhuillier’s spring collections. I think Monique was inspired by Laura on Project Runway – lots of deep v dresses. And Narciso? Just another obsession of mine ….
Yes, it’s nice when a blog entry has a theme (or even a point, you may be thinking) but here are the things I’m focussed on today: The Office Season 2 comes out on DVD – so I’ll be trekking to Target to buy a copy. Oscar de la Renta, you know how to make beautiful clothes that are wearable. (My favorites are looks 25, 26, and 39.) Stephen and Jon are back! (Goodbye morning free time. Must get TiVo.) Stephen, you should have won the Emmy, for “The Word” if nothing else. Finally, what is up with the mosquitos of late? I have at least five bites – two from the bus stop gig this morning. I need a first frost!
Read it again – try to make sense – see you tomorrow.
