This weekend is Stationery Show weekend, and while on Sunday morning, I’ll be happily walking the aisles at the Javits Center in a haze of paper, Saturday is dedicated to shopping + eating + temporarily escaping from the stresses of our upcoming move.
Makié always tops my shopping list. In fact, it’s rare that I visit New York without stopping in. Owner Makié Yahagi’s shop on Thompson Street (SoHo) is an utter delight, from the first glimpse through the large display window to the store’s jewel box size – which only serves to ramp up the charm – to the meticulously curated and presented assortment of clothing and accessories for sale. Primarily a children’s clothing destination, Makié designer Yuji Ogata’s collections are always both simple chic and age-appropriate; fashioned from lovely, heirloom quality fabrics. (Complementing the in-house line is clothing from like-minded designers such as Tuss, Album di Famiglia, and Leoca: there is even a capsule women’s collection for those looking to translate the aesthetic to adult sizing and styling.) Luxe accessories including jewelry, toys and housewares, and even this sweet little cap* round out the offerings. I can’t wait to stop in again this weekend. Makié is truly the perfect little shop.

* so cute that i purchased one in december for my niece.
ps if you’re feeling crafty and have a knack for reading Japanese, Yuji Ogata has published two children’s pattern books, available at amazon and etsy.

While for parties I prefer whimsy + color, when it comes to wedding invitations, I prefer simple, elegant and timeless. This “Poesy” invitation suite, from Bobalong Press’s new letterpress wedding collection, ticks all the boxes. Love it.

Chaos + confusion reign supreme in these parts, and yet time marches on. Four weeks of school remain, we’ve had our first spate of warm weather (at last) and summer can’t be far behind. Still, despite the looming deadlines, I manage to find plenty of time to peruse the internets. Take for example these lovely photos, discovered at Flickr during April:
- happy easter
- Feed me light, feed me life
- untitled
- 4 games this week. 5 next week. …..
- Happy Affogato Wednesday! ….
- a little corner at tartine bakery
Cheers and Happy May Weekend!

The Time Wasting Experiment, launched in 2009 (and ongoing via a Tumblr blog), is a compilation of Portland, OR artist Alyson Provax‘s introspective examination of days spent at work, seemingly with little output. To document the process, a selection of her observations are available as simple 5X5″ letterpress prints. While the examples are specific to her experience, the themes are universal and I recognize my own proclivity to procrastinate in more than a few of them. How powerful it would be to frame one of the prints and display it in your bathroom; a reminder upon waking to make the most of the day. (Or alternatively, to realize that time considered wasted was actually a catalyst for creativity.)

Paper Stock, a new stationery line from London designers Yarra Jones and Sarah Thorne, combines über luxe papers with sleek design. The première collection for SS13 includes an envelope clutch-shaped notebook in a très courant “vellum” pink: chic enough to carry to the shows, and quite useful for notes + sketching. Paper Stock’s future offerings will be seasonal launched to coincide with, and be inspired by, the fashion calendar.
Jones and Thorne have a wealth of design experience, including print work for fashion brands including Mulberry and Victoria Beckham. Their début as a team reflects their stylishly minimalist point of view. Looking forward to the next collection, High Summer, which should be online shortly.
