Hello, readers! And welcome to January, the season of resolutions and fresh starts. I’ve been thinking about fresh starts for a good while now, as I spent the end of 2010 trying to determine what a well-lived life looks like in the age of the internet. For me, blogging has never been about trying to “make it big”, financially or otherwise. My enjoyment comes mainly from 1. sharing things that strike my fancy with like-minded souls, and 2. connecting with people who share my interests. I have met so many fantastic people through my four+ years of blogging, and it brings me so much joy. That said, I’ve also noticed that I’m dedicating a larger portion of my day than I’d like to writing posts, and clicking around hoping to discover something great. I want my son (who’s 13) to think of his mother as more than a woman with a laptop and a Twitter account. And I want time to explore all my curiosities, not just those that require an internet connection. So after much soul searching (and email consultation with helpful friends), I’ve arrived at a decision that I’m happy about:
Starting in 2011, simple + pretty will become a weekly blog, with posts on Wednesdays. The content areas will remain the same: if you like pretty paper and pretty things, nothing will change other than the frequency of updates. In fact, if I do it right, the posts will be better: there will be more time to devote to each week’s entry, and I’m hoping to bring you a bit more than a photo + a quick comment. My online tentacles have connected me to some amazing people and I’d like you to get to know them, too. (Of course, Fashion Week may require a few extra posts, but that’s fashion for you: always requiring a little more than you anticipated.)
I hope that you’ll join me, and that the changes are good for us all.
Cheers and Happy New Year,
Jane
update: to each and every commenter, below, thank you! i am most grateful for your support.
Merry Christmas! School is finally out: let the non-stop “Can I open just one gift?” pleading begin …. it’s hard to wait when you’re 13 and excited for the celebration. We have present unwrapping spread over two days, not to mention yummy food to eat, and family and friends to visit (plus I have a few more Santa deliveries to make). Time to wrap up 2010 with the Five:
My photo this week is of our 2010 Holiday Card, designed by the ever-brilliant Peggy at bluepoolroad. I love its clean design and playful colors. And of course, I’m wishing every one of you its sentiments: Happy Happy Holidays (and P.S. all the best in 2011). I’ll be back, with something new, on Wednesday, January 5.
I am simply besotted with the simple elegance of this dress and am considering the myriad places I could wear it. From Preen: click through the entire pre-fall collection at Style.com.
