Friday Flickr Five + a short break

I’ve decided that as the economy stays in its downward spiral, I’ll just look down at my shoes and try not to think about it. I’m sure that will help.

We’re headed to a family wedding this weekend. (Yay! More flying!) I’m hoping to work in a daytrip to either Savannah or Charleston, and if all else fails, a quick run to Beaufort. But for now,

On with the Five:

  1. The Mysteries of the Universe
  2. wet
  3. Day Break
  4. morning crisp
  5. boston bokeh

And finally, two things: First, Go Red Sox! Seriously, please win this series and keep me watching baseball (and distracted) for a couple of weeks. Second, I’m taking next week off to regroup and recharge.

See you back here on October 20 with more inspiration ….. and thanks for reading.

Is this dress me, or what?

I haven’t been following Project Runway as closely this season. But I caught last night’s episode as I cannot pass up Tim Gunn home visits. Even better, though, was seeing Leanne’s collection. Loved it. So of course I woke up this morning in research mode, and discovered she has an etsy shop! The dress above is the “Max”, and it sold back in April. Such a perfect look that evokes so many of the fall collections I like, especially Jil Sander and Lanvin. So sad I missed out on the chance to own it.

And as I was clicking through the ten pages of “sold” dresses, I had deja-vu. Chelsea, did you clue me in to this? I know I saw it somewhere ….. probably back in April. Which means I had the chance to buy the dress and blew it. Arggh.

Adding to the wall (and giveaway winner)

I’m a big fan of the internet, and the blogosphere. Because of it, I’ve met some lovely people, and been exposed to things I never would encounter in suburban Chicago. Case in point: my newest addition to the art wall. I discovered Uppercase Gallery (in Calgary, AB) a couple of years ago, no doubt looking for letterpress something or other. Don’t ask me how I found it: I can’t remember. I check in from time to time, and this August 23 – September 30, Uppercase featured an Old School exhibit, with artwork from various artists. As I knew I would not be able to make the show, I bought the book, as I love most things school related. When it arrived, I flipped through and made notes of things I liked. I’m a tenacious researcher. One of the things that struck me was this print from artist Krista Stout:

Krista’s name didn’t ring a bell, and so when I flipped to the index to learn more, I was surprised (and happy) to discover that Krista is the artist behind Papered Together! Aha! No wonder I liked it! I emailed Krista to ask about it, bought it, and picked it up from the framer on Wednesday.

When I started the staircase art wall, the idea was to accumulate art that spoke to me, and add some personality to our home. Now that I look at the wall, its theme is bigger than that. All but one (and that one was the first thing I hung) are from people I’ve met through blogging. It not only is art that speaks to me; it’s people who speak to me. I smile whenever I climb the stairs because there’s a story behind each frame. A connection. And I love that. Thanks, Krista for adding another smile to my wall.

And ironically, congratulations, paperedtogether! You’ve won the office of the tooth fairy giveaway. Send me an email with your address and I’ll package it up and mail it off.
