We made it out! And back! (The “back” part was trickier.) We had lovely weather in Charleston, Beaufort, Bluffton, and Savannah. Ideal for walking around in spring clothing, poking in shops, eating out, and generally enjoying feeling warm. (The photo above is courtesy of my husband, and I have no idea where it’s from. Update: it’s from Friday night dinner at his aunt and uncle’s house. Low tide, and a dock with raccoon prints. I thought it was interesting, though. Maybe I should have ventured outside for this. I was inside, drinking wine and eating cashews …..) Now we’re back in rainy, cold, Chicago. Hello, April. At least it’s the perfect weather for doing laundry and catching up from being away.
Before I left, I promised new letterpress links. I have a few that I’ll be sharing over the next few days, but I’ll start with a discovery courtesy of Briar Press.

Just Vandy is a letterpress studio in Torrance, California. First of all, I’d like to say that I think the website is beautiful. I want it all. Be sure to check out their wedding and baby portfolios, especially this and this. It’s funny. I feel like such a “traditional” girl, but I’m really drawn to the modern stuff. Just Vandy does custom stationery, too, for those of us who aren’t needing the wedding/baby goods. Spend some time browsing. I hope you love it as much as I do.
Until tomorrow. Don’t get fooled between now and then.

Hello! I am hopeful that today we will salvage a bit of spring break. Cross your fingers. I’ll leave you with the Five, a bit early:
- SFtrip: clothes plan
- Eucera
- exposed
- my favorite time of day
- Zigzag
With any luck, I’m taking the rest of the week off and will catch up with you all sometime on Monday in this space with a couple new letterpress finds. See you then!

I am an accomplished time waster. Which is why it took me five (count ’em 1 2 3 4 5) years to frame these two cards and get them hung in the guest bedroom. Finally.
And yet, at the same time, I can be tenacious. Once I start something that I am interested in, I become focused solely on seeing it through to the conclusion. Which is how we ended up being HBO subscribers over the weekend. (Sorry if you were expecting something deeper than television. Bear with me.) I simply was not able to watch 15 episodes of In Treatment and then call it quits. I needed to know what happened to Laura, Sophie …. yes, even Alex. And so on Saturday afternoon, my only question of Comcast was “Okay, so when you activate our HBO subscription, how long will it take until I can watch it?” Um, less than a minute. I’m now on week 6. And I watched The Good Shepherd (almost three hours!) on Sunday. This On Demand thing is pretty cool.
Gotta go. Sophie’s up next.
Until tomorrow, from spring break with snow and lots of tv land.

Surprise! We’re still here, and you know what that means. Yep, we got hit with snow. Again. Another ten inches, I’d estimate. If you like to look on the bright side, the good news is that our flight was cancelled on Thursday night, so we did not have to spend hours at O’Hare on Friday watching the monitors update. If you like to be pessimistic, well, come sit next to me ….
Friday was a total loss because it was so yuck out that I didn’t feel like slogging through the snow to go anywhere. I did read all of April Vogue. Quite a feat.
By Saturday, I was ready to make lemonade from the lemons we’d been handed. As we had no food (we were supposed to be in Charleston), we set out for our favorite field trip (aka Moveable Feast) in search of fruit salad, Easter treats, and lunch. Thankfully, I called ahead to reserve some cookies (pictured above). Aren’t they cute? Full disclosure: I reserved some fruit salad as well, because I wasn’t about to drive an hour and be denied!

After lunch, since we were already “out west”, we headed over to the Heritage Prairie Market, in Elburn. What a charming, fresh and bright space it was! They were stocking the shelves when we arrived, getting ready for spring and all that it will bring. I’m definitely adding this market to my list of must visit field trip spots. The cooler was full of cream-on-top milk, microgreens (which looked awesome!), and cheeses. We were able to have a nice chat with the owner, who was so friendly and eager to talk about the store and farm. I learned that they even supply some restaurants in Chicago, including Chalkboard, which she raved about, so I’m adding that to the list of places to check out (and eat at). Plus, if you’re in the area, Heritage Prairie Market offers classes as well as kids camps this summer. Those camps are tempting …..
See you tomorrow, and probably through Wednesday. Then I’ll take my “break”. I think.

Greetings, from the land of winter storm warning. Yes, that’s right. We’re supposed to get 6-10 inches of snow today. Cross your fingers that we make it to warmer weather. I’ve got the reading material (wanted a new Martha Stewart Weddings, but it was not to be), and a chocolate bunny for the basket of my favorite 10-year-old. Maybe the snow will miss us?
On with the Five:
- Winter Robin
- untitled
- vintage luggage destination labels
- why don’t I drink my tears like wine
- blue
Have a wonderful holiday weekend! My plan is to spend a few days spring breaking, and meeting back in this space mid-week. See you then!
