San Francisco wrap-up through business cards

Today, I thought I’d share my favorite business cards acquired from our recent travels, along with a few thoughts:

  • The San Francisco area has some incredibly yummy food options. I’m still thinking about my lunch at Tartine, pot de creme (and cupcakes and candy) from miette, and standing in line for a wonderful lunch from Bouchon Bakery. So what if there was no line at Bouchon a half hour later? (We stood in line at Tartine as well. As far as I’m concerned, a line is a good sign when you’re looking to eat out.)
  • I’m still thinking about the Rose & Radish’s felt coasters and placemats. Luckily, they’re available online.
  • Sketch Ice Cream could be the cutest ice cream shop ever! I think I met the owners when we visited, and they were so friendly and charming and helpful. (Crossing my fingers that they add a long sleeved tee to their arsenal of merchandise.) Oh, and that’s their ultra-cute dotted business card on the upper right.
  • Stem’s card (and shop) were lovely. Wish I could have bought some flowers from them.
  • And a quick shout-out to two favorites from the Mission district: The Curiosity Shoppe was so cool (as is their website! yea!), and 826 Valencia was a joy to visit and poke around in. (No card for that one, but you should stop in. Pirate gear galore. Whoever was working on the day we visited – thank you!)

And now, I await the snow. Yes, that’s right. Snow. 6-9 inches. UNCLE!

Hello, Monday

It seems to take me six days to “recover” from vacation. And by that I mean get caught up on the laundry, the mail, the cleaning, the stuff that continues to accumulate in your absence. On Sunday I started to feel like cleaning things out. (A sure sign that “I’m back” if ever there was.)

The flowers pictured above were a gift from me to me on Saturday. I stopped in my favorite local florist, hoping to stumble across some silver brunia. I like this combo just as well, although I have no idea what the green berries are. I just know that I like them.

More things I’m liking? I loved Leann(e) Shapton’s illustration for the New York Times T magazine. It immediately brought to mind Subtle Circle, which Shari introduced me to back in December. Still working my way through T, but that was a nice start.

As for the week ahead? More clearing out, I think. It’s fun to accumulate, but it’s freeing to pare back. Before I get too preachy, I must admit I’m also looking forward to hearing about Maria’s new project today. May be an accumulating moment.

Have a great Monday.

Friday Flickr Five

I cannot believe that it is Friday already. I’m still thinking about San Francisco and the lovely time we had. But I’ll have to get back to that later. Right now, it’s time for the Five:

  1. Ripley’s Narrowest House in America
  2. my valentine!
  3. pots de creme
  4. Make a Wish
  5. …bubblkeh…

Sneaking in a little plug: I bought (and ate) some of #3 while at Miette in the Ferry Building. Awesomely delicious, and although you can return the glass pot for $1 credit, there was absolutely no way that was going to happen. It’s my cute little souvenir, sitting on my desk as I type this ….

Have a great weekend!

Prada’s fall collection featured lots and lots of lace, which didn’t do much for me. I preferred the looks above. But here’s the thing: back in September, when I was studying their spring collection, the bolder prints and florals didn’t do much for me, either. And now I’m kind of intrigued. So perhaps that’s a sign that come fall, I’ll be working some lace into my wardrobe. Or perhaps I’ll just mimic Miuccia’s personal wardrobe. She always looks perfectly put together! See the rest of Prada’s fall line here.

Bell’occhio

The last time we visited San Francisco (spring of 1996!), one of the shops I’d hoped to visit, but didn’t, was Bell’occhio. I regretted not stopping in, and would be reminded of it each time I’d flip through Martha, or Victoria, and see it cited for some fabulous item. Well, this time I would not be denied. On Saturday, we took a cab up to Brady Street (my feet were hurting!) and entered the adorable and charming shop. It’s small, but I took my time and looked through it all. Then I studied the ribbon wall (pictured above) and selected three different ribbons to cut and add to my inventory. One of those was a grey-red ribbon I’d pre-admired at their beautiful website. I snagged a business card, too. I love pretty business cards! Bell’occhio is definitely a “must see” shop. (The shipping department, located right next door, is pretty, too!) If you can’t get there, spend some time browsing online. So much elegance and fabulousness to see.
