Some days are meant to celebrate. And Sunday was such a day. It was sunny. It was near 50. The snow was melting. (We still have a long way to go, but progress!) And, when I was walking around the yard, I came across some narcissus shoots poking up through the mulch. What a welcome sight this was. It lifted my spirits and reminded me that while winter is (too) long, it is not our only season. Spring is coming.
See you tomorrow. Today, I celebrate.
partial credit for my fantastic mood must be given to Wilco for rockin’ SNL.

Do you like cute stationery and Fresh bath products? Then you’ll love this week’s giveway. The stationery is from Jenny Sweeney Designs – a local (Libertyville, IL) stationer that just re-opened its cozy little shop. Now, in addition to their own line (which is now fully stocked in-store), they carry some independent designers’ works. I spotted Night Owl Paper Goods as well as Jennifer Murphy’s pieces for Midwest of Cannon Falls. They also have started to offer fresh flowers. The flowers on Thursday were gorgeous: freesia, parrot tulips and other unique stems. It’s a great place to pick up an impromptu bouquet “just because”. Oh, and before I forget, lots and lots of ribbons by the yard, too. (That’s what I bought. Clearly, I’m now hoarding ribbons in anticipation of a global shortage.) If you’re in the Chicago area, stop in Jenny Sweeney Designs and check it out.
Back to the giveaway: It consists of a Jenny Sweeney Designs birthday card, some bunny/Easter-themed notecards (set of 8), as well as samples of Fresh’s nectarine milk lotion and hesperides shower gel. I got the Fresh product samples at Barney’s in San Francisco two weeks ago, so they’re pretty “fresh”.
Interested? Leave a comment (no anonymous, please) at this post by 11:59 pm cst on Monday, March 3. I’ll draw one name and announce the winner in Wednesday’s blog post. Good luck!
Extra happiness: While at Jenny Sweeney Designs, I asked about my favorite script postcard that they mailed out three years ago. It’s the work of Debi Zeinert at Blooming Quill. That card will be one my ribbon wall permanently, I think ….

Happy Leap Day! Flickr has been under the weather, so I’m not getting my usual “fix” of photos from my contacts. But it’s time for the Five, so on we go:
- Delicate
- Less and more: between, I am
- Looking Junior in the Eye
- books
- MORNING HAS BROKEN
Wow. That was quick and surprisingly easy. Have a wonderful weekend – I’ll see you back here on Monday with yet another giveaway, and news from the land of snow and cold (which would be Chicago). See you then.
By the way, today’s photos are from the new Crewcuts girls’ collection. I think these cardigans are the best, and it is a (very) good thing that I do not fit size children’s size xxl because I think I would buy one and wear it. (the flamingo could totally work for an adult, in my opinion. the elephant would be harder to pull off.)

Above is Wednesday’s breakfast. The scones are from a Target Starbucks: they’re small petite vanilla bean, and quite good. As you can see, my au lait art will not get me hired anywhere anytime soon. The good news is, it tastes the same …..
Two things from my “reading stack” have me clicking around online this week:
- Has anyone been to see Design and the Elastic Mind at MoMA? It opened on Sunday and runs through May 12. My online research really is drawn to this. (May take a bit to load.)
- The March issue of Charleston magazine has a nice feature about naturalist Mark Catesby. I am obsessed with engravings, and his (of the region from the 1700s) are beautiful. You can read the article at charlestonmag.com, and to look at more of his work, visit here. I may need to buy this book. Gorgeous! I love this and this and hope to visit Carolina Antique Maps & Prints to see more of his work when we’re in Charleston this March.
See you tomorrow for the Five.

Hey, I get it. Snow is pretty. Even here, on the pear tree, I see it. And I was all over its prettiness, back in December. And January (maybe). But March arrives on Saturday, and I am so, so ready for any hint of spring that is out there. Please?
While I wait, you’ll want to check out another fab photographer. I think Susie Cushner’s work is stunning. (Not to mention how much I like the site design!) My favorite photos are under “still time”, specifically numbers 1, 4, and 22. 1 because a nice cool drink sounds delightful (especially if one was to need a cool drink because it was warm out!). 4 because she made those forks look simply gorgeous. And 22, because it so sets the mood.
Enjoy, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow.
As always, thanks to tt for the photographer link!
