Sugar Paper

Good morning! Can’t believe the weekend is over – it tends to go quickly when you spend one whole day doing taxes (grrr). Still have to go to the post office today to mail it in, but the forms are at last complete.

Bakery Monday is taking a hiatus because Sugar Paper‘s website relaunched, and you ought to check it out. Based in Los  Angeles and founded by Jamie Oberg and Chelsea Shukov, Sugar Paper has oodles of cute paper inspiration. Need notecards? Got ’em. Need a sweet baby gift? Done. My favorite part of the new site is the custom printing section, with choices ranging from wedding to baby to parties to personal stationery. If you’re in LA, you can visit one of their two locations, which have a much larger selection. (I spied a nice big wall of greeting cards in one of the photos.) But if you’re not, enjoy the web browsing. Almost as fun.

Friday-the-thirteenth Flickr Five

letterpress card collection | simple pretty

Our cold weather continues, and continues, but it’s Friday the thirteenth, and the sun is out! Progress! This week’s Five is full of frivolity. Enjoy.

  1. handmade stationery I thought this looked so elegant + fun
  2. cake wouldn’t this make the perfect breakfast?
  3. untitled even the contents of her purse are adorable
  4. Coffee with The Cranes sweet
  5. Which came first? The cranes or the eggs?

Do the last two photos have you wondering about paper cranes? Photographer Liz Shuman has organized The Paper Crane Project. She’s hoping to make and send out 1000 paper cranes. Your job, should you request one, is to take a photo of your crane and send it to her. The photos will eventually become part of an installation. My crane arrived yesterday, and so it’s time to get the camera out and document! Thanks, Liz – you can read her original post describing the project at abstracttheday.blogspot.com.

the photo above is just a smattering of my ever-growing letterpress collection. some days, i think i should open a papeterie in our office ….

How to Cope? Sugar + Fat

barefoot contessa brownie mix | simple pretty

Can I give thanks that yesterday is over? The storm was crazy: my brain switched back to winter, and I self-medicated by making Peeps brûlée, a delicate treat whereby you skewer a Peep and then caramelize the sugary coating over a stovetop burner. The problem is, it’s hard to stop with one (or two) …

Couple that with an interesting article in the Wednesday NYTimes about brownies. Seems there more about the chocolate now – a welcome development! The article features three variations, should you be so inclined. Or, you can order the Barefoot Contessa Outrageous Brownie Mix from Stonewall Kitchen. I did, and the delayed gratification will still be sweet.

April Fool’s? Sadly, no.

I must have fallen into a wayback machine, because when I woke up this morning, I saw January. No joke – this picture was taken five minutes ago, and it’s blowing and snowing like a good old blizzard. Yuck. I’m resisting the urge to get in my car and drive south …. weather can really affect my mood. You can bet I’ll spend the day flipping through Charleston and Savannah magazines, and searching realtor.com, pretending that I live somewhere else.

On a positive note, my good friend R is running the St. Louis marathon this weekend. She’s bringing along an entourage to cheer her on. As I will be in Rockford, cheering on my buddy at his soccer tournament (in the snow?) I will say it now: Go R!!

Jess Rosenkranz/Headless Press

I read quite a few blogs daily. One that I’ve become hooked on of late is Oh Happy Day. Jordan has great taste, and she inevitably points me toward something that makes me squeal with glee. Today she mentions Jess Rosenkranz and suggests you check out her website. So I did. Squeal! Watch Jess’ story, “How to Get to Walmart on the Bus in Nine Easy Steps.” Charming! (you’ll find it under the mystery lollipop) Check out her homemade books at the Headless Press shop. I’m trying to decide which one to buy. My favorites, are Postage Due, Chicken Story, and 30 White Roosters. The more I look; the more I smile. Check it out. It’s all good – trust me.

Thanks, Jordan, and thank you, Jess!
