I’ve been distracted from my Flickr-ing of late. Perhaps it’s because the landscape is so bleak that I’m struggling to find inspiration. Here are the five:
- baguettes my bakery weakness, exposed
- 1 year on flickr today! love the mug
- Babies and these boots
- yellow bird detail I totally want a cute Bugheart purse
- spring is in the air in the south, at least. I remain hopeful
Have a wonderful weekend + see you Monday!

It’s March! Coming in like a wet rainy lion …. but along with the rain is some lovely new work from Maria at Port2Port Press. Her shop updated with gorgeous orchid and amethyst themed letterpress cards. I bought the “willow” this morning before I ran out for lunch. She’s also launched a Photographs and Prints project. (The letterpress house prints above are from the project, and I’m totally smitten with that house!) The theme is “The Space In Between”, and will be featured until May 1, when it will be replaced by a new idea. I just love that house – did I mention that? I’m going to spend the rest of the day purchasing it and pondering where to hang it. Oh, the agony! Maria puts out such lovely work. I’m already addicted to her photoblog, 3191, for my daily dose of inspiration.

I ordered a bunch of books from Amazon on Monday. Sometimes, that works out for me, and sometimes, it doesn’t, particularly when I’m ordering sight-unseen. One of the books that arrived was A Seed Is Sleepy, written by Dianna Hutts Aston, and illustrated by Sylvia Long. It’s a children’s book, but it’s also quite informative and gorgeously produced. I read it to my son when it arrived and he was enchanted by the illustrations. We had fun comparing the seeds to the full-grown plants. It definitely inspired me – I think I’ll be drawing seeds and plants, or working on my penmanship for the next few days. This book is not ready for the shelf just yet. I love when that happens! No buyer’s remorse ….

Force fed a steady diet of magazines over the weekend, I am now a fount of information – most of it unneeded. Here are a few of the gems I uncovered:
- Last week’s New York magazine (the fashion issue, and I received it yesterday) featured food diaries of four people connected to the fashion world. This was a hoot – two of the four subsist on w a t e r. I’m not kidding. Oh wait, I’m sorry, Anne Slowey (editor at Elle) did eat three olives while watching the Super Bowl. Read it at nymag.com, if you dare.
- Savannah, Georgia is the hot travel spot. The current issue of Cottage Living features shops in Savannah and the surrounding Lowcountry. Mary Engelbreit’s magazine will feature Savannah in its April/May issue. As I just returned from a short trip to the area, I’m pleased to be au courant! If you go, be sure to visit @home, and the Paris Market, both on Broughton Street.
- I got my hands on the newest issue of Blueprint, courtesy of a neighbor. I can only wonder if/when my copy will arrive. All in all, I like the mag a lot. I am loving the linkable notebooks from starthereny featured, and have added Camp on Perry as a must-see shop when I get to NYC. Check out Blueprint’s updated website here.
Blueprint is not on newsstands yet, so the updated site most likely will launch on the “on sale” date, which I believe is March 5.
I love the smell and taste of coffee in the morning. After staying up late for the Oscars last night (yet still falling asleep before Best Picture), I was really looking forward to this morning’s cafe au lait.
When I’m in Boston, my go-to spot for coffee and morning goodies is this week’s featured bakery, the South End Buttery. Located in the South End, the Buttery has wonderful breakfast pastries and good, strong coffee drinks. (I can personally vouch for the chocolate chip muffin.) My experience is that you’ll have to get there early to guarantee a seat, but if the weather is nice, take your coffee and muffin to go, and walk through the charming environs as you sip and enjoy. Later in the day, the Buttery serves sandwiches and salads, as well as cupcakes and other treats! Check them out.
The website is currently under construction, but it does include the address and phone number.
