tick, tick, tick … I am starting to feel the time crunch … are you? This weekend, in my rush to get downtown and also supervise the home improvements, I totally missed two good Sunday NYTimes articles. Thankfully, I saved one, and was linked to another, have to slow down a bit!
- File of Dreams about the author’s accumulation of torn-out “to make later” recipes. Guilty! I need to perform a “paper reduction” on my mass of print-outs and rip-outs, as 90%+ are things I will never, ever, ever make, so why am I saving them? January will mark the addition of paper reduction to bottle reduction. (which is coming along swimmingly, by the way)
- Retro Printers, Grounding the Laser Jet all about the resurgence of letterpress printing. How did I miss this???
And lastly, since I’m on the topic of letterpress (when am I not?) there is a new blog all about one designer’s experiences with her Kelsey press. Check out Adventures in Letterpress (adventuresinletterpress.blogspot.com) – I’m living vicariously through her.
Happy St. Lucia Day!
Feeling too hip for most of the parenting magazines and websites? Starting today, you may want to check in with Babble, a new website for parents who are “fun, smart, intellectually curious people”. It’s not up as of 9 this morning, but from what I can glean, it seems to be geared to parents of younger children. My website radar says that it’s worth a look – you never know where web wandering will lead.
Not much pithy to report this morning. This past weekend, we had our office bead-boarded and crown moulded. It always takes longer than you’d think, and thus sucks up more of the weekend than you’ve planned. Plus, I really needed to cacuum the room since all of the furniture was moved out of the way ….
Anyway, on Sunday we did get into the city for Bari Zaki’s studio sale. Such a darling space, and lots to see (and buy). You can check out her website to get a taste of what you missed. I left with visions of my own studio dancing through my head ….
Plans for the week include finishing Christmas cards, figuring out the final what-people-are-getting list, and then getting it!
Happy Monday!
Went to my husband’s office Holiday Party last night (the first ever!), so it’s a late start to the Friday Five:
- morning I just love Maria’s blue table! Not to mention, we own the same dull knife.
- PICT0674 wouldn’t you love to have these ornaments?
- I got a supercute penguin!! or how about this?
- working breakfast looks good to me …
- roses ahhhh a snow antidote …
Have a great weekend! See you Monday!
Still looking for gift ideas? If you’re in Chicago, there are two options this weekend. The first, running Friday-Sunday, is the One of a Kind Show at the Merchandise Mart – over 400 artisans will be participating, and you’re sure to find something. Second, on Saturday and Sunday, Bari Zaki is have a studio sale, where you can select from all kinds of holiday ephemera. I’ll be there on Sunday – hope there are some gooides left. And if you’re in Oakland, CA, you’re the luckiest of all, because Carrot & Stick Press is hosting its first ever studio sale on Saturday from 10-4. I would love to see what they’re featuring. Maybe someone who goes will report.
Oh, and if you live in Chicago and love crowds, Ina Garten will be at the Chicago Crate & Barrel at 850 W. North Avenue today from 4 to 6 pm. Enjoy!
