I’ve come down with a bad case of procrastination. There are so many projects at home “in process” that I’m not sure where to start! Darn that Martha Stewart, and her beautiful Bedford, NY home (see the July 2006 issue), taunting me with the perfect 4th of July party! I am great at getting to 90% complete, and then letting the rest go. Let’s see – the dining room just needs a mirror – the living room just needs a lamp, the 4th of July party just needs a painted pergola with cafe lights ….. and I could keep going, room by room. I’ve tried this year to “just do” things that I’d previously sat on the fence about, but those were little things, with small price tags. How do you make the jump to the big things? Is there a cure for procrastination?
In today’s Chicago Tribune, Eric Zorn’s column deals with ring-tones. His premise? Your ring-tone, while incredibly meaningful and hip to you, is so not to everyone else who has to listen to it. What do you think? I’m inclined to agree with him. I do laugh (to myself, of course) at the hip-hop ring-tones of people over the age of, oh, let’s say 19? (My ring-tone? Continental, courtesy of Cingular) But ring-tones are the least of my problems when it come to cell phones. My personal irritant is cell phone users who believe that, cell phone in hand, any public place becomes their personal office space. I cannot believe the topics that are discussed (and loudly – because hey, can you hear me now). Health problems? Sex life? How incredibly awesome you are, despite your being sooooo drunk last night? Tell me more! I am now officially old – have a great day …..

Just two short weeks ago, my yard was full of peonies. Full to the point of “I can’t cut them all, but it sure is great to have so many beautiful blooms.” Cut to today, and the photo above. It’s over. I am now going to have to get my peony fix the expensive way, at Ex Floreus. Oh, but it was fun while it lasted. On another note, Grace from Design*Sponge is back from vacation, and she has some lovely photos from her travels. Her pictures of food would translate well to notecards, I think. (Love the coffee cup!) Check them out here.
Bizarre insights into my mind – right now, I’m in the midst of what I like to term “bottle reduction”. I have accumulated way too many products that have to be used in the everyday getting ready process. Shampoos, shower gels, and let’s not even get started on the various facial products. The amassing starts so innocently – I read an article (in a magazine, no doubt) that touts “X” as the perfect product to deal with my X-iness. Sold! Or I get a sample card from Sephora, Neimans, Nordstrom (you name it, I’ll get sucked in). I buy it, try it, and more often than not am underwhelmed, but the crazy in me needs to keep it until it’s used up. Hence, bottle reduction phases – where I stop buying and just use stuff up! The problem? As soon as I near completion of bottle reduction, I’m all about getting back to buying – because the end goal is the perfect, streamlined, getting ready system. Still don’t have that system – am I getting closer? Maybe I just need the perfect spf …..
I’ve been eyeing these notecards for a while. Isn’t it the perfect learning-to-write-cursive typeface? They would make fun teacher gifts. How appropriate that I’m talking about school today – our local elementary’s last full day is tomorrow. I always LOVED school, and even more, I loved shopping for school supplies. Mid-July was a good time to start shopping the ads and planning the perfect supply stash – including an awesome Trapper Keeper, of course! Check out Patisserie’s other offerings here.
