Week Twenty-three: H. Bloom Flowers

h. bloom bouquet selection | simple pretty

As someone who loves pretty flowers but lacks a reliable local florist, H. Bloom‘s flowers-by-subscription is eminently appealing. It’s customizable, too, as you can select frequency of delivery and bouquet style. With floral collections ranging from classic to exotic (and even self-arrange!) you can’t go wrong.

H. Bloom currently serves Chicago, DC, New York, and San Francisco – until my zip code is eligible (and I may have to move to achieve this), I’ll satisfying my flower cravings at H. Bloom’s blog, which includes flower tips and info (including previews of upcoming deliveries), inspiration boards, and video tutorials on flower arranging.

Summer is here. Peony season is waning (sob), as of Monday, I’ll be the parent of a high-schooler (sob), and we move into the months of slowing down and smelling the roses (hooray). The older I get, the more I enjoy summer. Who would have guessed?

Week Twenty-two: Francisca Prieto’s Between the Folds/British Butterflies

Graphic designer + artist Francisca Prieto marries a mathematical view of the world with the etheral in her latest project, Between the Folds: Butterflies.  The 34×51″ piece (pictured above) showcases, in one panel, all of the plates from the Rev. F.O. Morris book, A History of British Butterflies (1870). Prieto’s intricate folds nicely juxtapose with the delicate subject matter. If you’re in London this June, don’t miss Summer Open Studios where you’ll have a chance to view the work in person. June 15-17 at Cockpit Arts.

National Stationery Show 2012: Final Bits & Bobs

linda & harriett

Another year; another Stationery Show. I’m so glad I decided to attend. Walking the aisles at Javits definitely reinvigorated my love for pretty paper. As I wrap up my coverage, thought I’d share a few more photos and products that stood out.

  1. Linda & Harriett designer Liz Libre’s oversized quilt calendar was a hit at the show (and rightly so) but equally charming was the brand-new Pony Bob card carrier, a chic way to keep your writing supplies at the ready.
  2. Paper + Cup I am an unabashed fan of Truman and Minhee Cho’s utilitarian luxe stationery …. and was glad to see some new product at the show, including a “tagged” line of cards and gift tags that had me fondly remembering having to apply hole protector stickers to sheets of paper in my 3-ring binder. Paper + Cup’s version, unsurprisingly, is in card form and much cooler.
  3. Rifle Paper Co. Anna Bond’s illustrations define sweetness. love her color palette and winsome details.
  4. Sesame Letterpress this is the calendar I’m going with for 2013, though I may display July all year long …. Sesame (comprised of the husband/wife team of Matt Heindl and Breck Hostetter) does vintage-feeling icons so well. (They also make the nicest letterpress coasters, btw. heavy stock + gorgeous, simple design.)
  5. The Social Type Allison Brennan could be the cheeriest person I’ve ever met. And she’s a Packer fan to boot, which goes a long way at my house. So I couldn’t miss the chance to stop and visit with The Social Type (design team: Allison + Jessica Tree) during their debut at NSS. Loving the colorful gift wrap and cards, ladies! (And glad you brought your talented husband along, A. Next visit to LA, I’m having pie!)

National Stationery Show 2012: Frausto & Co.

gentleman’s deck

Gifty goodness from Frausto & Co. The Gentleman’s Deck + The Spy Deck are chock-full of info ranging from spy vocabulary to deciphering codes to how to tie a Windsor knot. (I think my buddy needs these: info that he’ll like, and presentation that I love.) Rounding out the trio is a Gardener’s Deck to inform and inspire.
