everywhere tote
I’m continually drawn to simple, well-designed utilitarian items. Inklore offers a plethora of said goods. The everywhere tote is a timeless carryall (and charming in grey and white), and I think the Horizon clutch would be the perfect grab-and-go essentials bag.

Inklore’s designer, Sam Hirst, is also affiliated with online (and Los Gatos!) shop Post 61 Collective. It too is full of simple, useful things (including items from Fog Linen Work). My current favorite is the wooden gift box: customizable with a “No. 61”, “Love You”, or “Merci” label, I think it would be ideal for stowing business cards accumulated while traveling, whether to Los Gatos or Paris :) You can see more at the Inklore and Post 61 online shops.

Loving the inherent simplicity and the charm in these business card designs from St. Helena/Napa Valley based Bluestocking Letterpress. (One of my obsessions is well-designed business cards.) Click over to the Bluestocking Letterpress site for portfolios of invitations, wedding invitations, broadsides, greeting cards, and yes, even more business cards.

We recently spent a cold, rainy weekend in San Francisco (I always bring rain with me when I travel). One of my must-see, must-eat-at stops was Tyler Florence’s new restaurant, Wayfare Tavern, and so undaunted, we headed over on our first night in town. Designed by Tyler Florence and Lori Yeomans, it’s a gorgeous space: dark and cozy and a perfect spot to escape the weather. (I was envious of those who had tables by the fireplace.) As our stomachs were running on Chicago time, we arrived at 4:30 and were fortunate enough to snag a seat at the chef’s table, giving us a great view of the kitchen goings on as well as a preview of what I’ll be ordering the next time I’m in town. (Deviled eggs, fried chicken, and if I’m terribly adventurous, bone marrow.) This time, I couldn’t pass up the Wayfare burger (with fried egg) and fries: the perfect bar food dinner in a most elegant setting. You can see menus and more photos at the Wayfare Tavern website. And word to the wise: unless you’re feeling extremely lucky, or like to eat dinner at 3:30, make a reservation.
