Weekend wrap (aka Saturday in the City)

Happy Monday! The view above is from my bedroom window, taken sometime on Saturday morning. Pretty, isn’t it? I was a little worried that it would cause traffic jams and keep me from the studio sale, but worry not! We made it into the city without incident (after a quick stop at the new LLBean store – seems odd to shop at LLBean and not be in Freeport) and went straight to Bari Zaki’s studio sale. I enjoyed looking at this year’s offerings so elegantly presented and wrapped, and selected  a couple of small presents that will be going in the mail shortly. Plus, Bari had some origami treasures to show our 11-year-old. He studied the turtle she gave him for a good hour after we left. I’ll get a photo up soon.

Then, as we had time before our dinner reservation, we stopped in Southport Grocery for a sugar fix, as well as quick stops at Twosided and Molly’s Cupcakes. Yes, that makes two cupcake stops within an hour, but I’d never been to Molly’s and just had to check it out. It was darling, and so it merited a mini cupcake purchase (and a cookie. I cannot lie.) I’ll have to go back when it’s not a slushy mess out and I can linger …

With a little more time before dinner, we drove down Michigan Avenue to see the lights (and the crowds). Then, on to Scoozi! for a holiday dinner in the city. Relaxing and fun and becoming a tradition. I love that.

How was your weekend?

Angela’s post about her invitation being featured in La Cucina Italiana inspired me to check out the US site for the magazine, where I spotted this photo (and recipe) for Brioche Spinach Cups. An enticing way to eat your spinach, to be sure.

Friday Flickr Five

Happy Friday! For some reason, I really feel like I’ve earned the weekend this week. (That was not a very elegant sentence. I can’t figure out a better way to say it.) I’m really looking forward to Bari Zaki’s studio sale on Saturday. Hoping to find some little gifts for special friends. (Oh, I hope the chocolate nonpareils will be there again! Crossing my fingers!) And I’m wishing that I could transport myself to Oakland as well so that I could visit the Carrot & Stick sale. California weather sounds perfect right about now.

On with the Five:

My wish is for a restful and family-centered weekend. May your weekend be equally pleasant. See you back here on Monday.
