I recently picked up the premiere issue of Boho magazine. I know, there is very little about me that is boho (fashion wise), but I do tend to be boho with my green living goals. Besides, I just couldn’t pass up a magazine that featured Miette Confiserie, Heaven on Main Street (the cute bakery in Bovina, NY that I blogged about here), as well as Josie Maran Cosmetics. It will be interesting to see where this little mag goes with the next issue. I’m looking forward to it.
And, did you see the NYTimes article about Rachel Barrett, a photographer who is documenting NYC’s 236 newsstands that are all being replaced by shiny, identical, “modern” newsstands? As someone who loves the feel of the old newsstand and its personality, I’m glad that Ms. Barrett took the time to save them, at least on film. Take a peek at a few of the newsstands at her website, or check out the NYTimes slideshow. They exude personality: not always pretty, but real in a way that the standardized format won’t be able to replicate. For me, stuff like this is the essence of a city.
I’m still sad that my favorite Boston newsstand (the piles of magazines at Boylston & Dartmouth that I loved visiting) is gone.
Happy fall! See you tomorrow.

Can you believe Spring Fashion Week starts next Friday? I for one am giddy to see more from Cushnie Et Ochs, especially after falling for the ultra-cool dress pictured above. I thought for sure it was Narciso.
And iPhone users, the (free!) style.com app is now available! Get it at iTunes. It’s my second app (the first was yelp – I’m not exactly miss techie).
Back to the holiday weekend. See you Tuesday.

I’m closing out the “first week of school” (hooray!) postings with a photo of the nifty little mechanical pencil I picked up on Wednesday. It’s from Zebra, and I love it. It gives a little personality to my Sudoku work. My son noticed my new office supply right away, and wants his own, so looks like I’ll be picking up another next week …..
And as for my routine, I did get back into the habit of cooking by making dinner Thursday night. I highly recommend Food & Wine’s Pasta with Sausage, Basil, and Mustard recipe from Nigel Slater. Very yummy (my husband gave it 9 out of 10), spicy, and best of all, fast.
On with the Five:
- A tinge of Autumn
- scraps
- Oyster House in Fog
- BLT -with LOBSTER!!!

Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend. I am taking Monday off from the blogosphere to spend with my boys. (We have no soccer scheduled. Can you believe it ?) See you back here on Tuesday. It will be September, it will be fall, and I cannot believe how quickly the summer flew by.

I’m kind of stumbling through this first week of school. Haven’t found my “routine” yet, which leaves me a little lost. Maria’s August Card Society shipment arrived on Wednesday for a nice mail surprise. I love the letterpressed berries and peaches …. and the “sweet” couldn’t be, well, sweeter.
Today I’m hoping to find that routine. Starting with my usual Thursday run ….. a midday visit to R, and I’m also hoping to slowly wean myself from the narcissistic continual web checks that go hand in hand with my blogging. “Write it, let it go” will be my new mantra.
See you tomorrow.
And for the giveaway winner: Congratulations Nadia! You’ve won the dvds! Please visit my profile, send me an email with your mailing address before Tuesday, September 2 at 8am and I’ll get them packaged up and on their way.
