Speaking of updated websites (a la Makié), my favoritest cupcake provider has a spiffy new site full of recipes, news and lots of lots of gorgeous photos by ultra-talented photographer Elizabeth Lynch.
Better yet, Southport Grocery is working on a way to ship those yummy cupcakes anywhere in the US. Get ready, UPS and/or Fedex man. You’ll be busy.
Favorites from the menu? Bread pudding pancakes (they sell the mix), cupcake pancakes (even better than you’re imagining), and seasonal fruit dressed in vanilla vinaigrette. All are heavenly. I need to get back there for breakfast soon.
I hope my dentist isn’t reading this post ….
See you tomorrow with a possible construction update and the Five.

aren’t they gorgeous?

Thanks to Housemartin, I’m now wishing that I lived in Portland, OR so I could have attended the Portland Antique Festival and picked up some gorgeously arranged and packaged candy from Candywinkel. Founded by Alex of Cecily Ink and Amy of Goosey Press, the photos all looked beyond tempting.
Unfortunately, blogger is not letting me upload photos. So, check out the Housemartin or Cecily Ink blogs for the visuals and start planning your trip to Portland.

It’s ba-ack: Tuesday morning heralded the return of insomnia. At least this time, I have the culprit fingered: Sudafed, you are guilty! At 4:10 am, wide awake, I was clicking around the web, trying to avoid sites with audio – don’t want to wake up those who can sleep!

I’ve been checking out Makie Clothier online from time to time, (thanks to Maria) as I find their children’s clothes quietly gorgeous. So, it was a nice surprise to find that they now offer online shopping, as well as antiques and adult clothing!

Some of my new favorites are the antique milk pitchers, wool/angora sweaters (up to size 10!), a women’s cotton blouse, and an adorable little girl’s dress. Check out Makie’s site and see if you don’t fall for something, too. Some day, I’ll get to their store. Until then, there’s 4:10 am shopping at my laptop: always open.

We finally made it to Andersonville on Sunday. Don’t know why we waited so long, as it was fun to walk up and down Clark Street, checking out this and that on a warm and sunny summer afternoon. I found the shopkeepers ultra-friendly and easy to talk to (especially at Scout).
Highlights of the day were:
M.Henry our first stop (actually, our second stop because I thought that Pasticceria Natalina closed at 3. Not so.) We had a late brunch: husband and son had eggs (with yummy potatoes) and I had pancakes with berries and vanilla creme. Cute, sunny space and I eyed the pastry case as we left. Next time ….
Scout chock full of cool and unique stuff. A feast for the eyes. The shop’s goal is to continually feature new product (every three to four weeks), so it’s a place that requires frequent visits. You could spend a lot of time here just noticing things.
Coffee Studio okay, so I was sucked in by the ultra-cool signage, but my iced tea was delicious (sweetened with simple syrup). They had some beautiful coffee carafes and other accessories that we drooled over. I also liked that their plastic togo cups are biodegradable. Mine is currently in our compost pile. (I’m going to check it out to see if it truly degrades.) This is also where I bought my pastry for the day. A chocolate chip cookie (naturally). I saved it for Monday and it was soooo good. At times, it’s like I’m running my very own cookie taste test, but there’s no rankings because I end up liking them all.
Next trip in, we’ll have to go on a Saturday so we can get pizza here. (menu pictured above) Hopefully we’ll get back while the weather is nice.
