We’re hitting the home stretch. So far, things are going well here, with the exception of one Christmas card. (Of course, it is the one going to my in-laws. I mailed it too early for their holiday destination. It may find its way to postal limbo.)
Are you still looking for gifts? May I suggest one of the following:

photo from garnethill.com
Felt Cylinder Bag I think these are adorable! Spotted in the Garnet Hill catalog, which arrived on Saturday. Three for $48? I’d pick charcoal, pink and lime.

Fluke/Willyhoodwink ditto to the charge of adorable. I love its sweet expression. It would make a great little girl’s gift. $34 at Lavish. (A website I’d bookmarked a long time ago, and checked back in yesterday. Surprise!)

Seasons Forest Cards by Starparticle Press I have nothing to add other than “Just look at them!” Gorgeous. (okay, I did have more to add ….)

photo from Vosges Haut Chocolate
Something Chocolate I really love these Wink of the Rabbit caramels from Vosges. Sometimes, a small, decadent treat says a lot.

photo from Kayak Cookies
When all else fails, you can’t go wrong with Cookies (That is my motto.) And now Kayak cookies come in a sweet little gift box! A package of 18 regular and chocolate “baby” salty oats! Aren’t you tempted?
Have fun clicking around. See you tomorrow ….

Ah, the weekend is (almost) here. I have under 15 cards remaining to write and address ….. and a sore hand. It’s snowing (again). Must be December.

I cannot believe it’s Thursday ….. where is the time going? This weekend is looking busy. On Saturday, I need to make Christmas cookies, and we also need to buy our tree and get the lights on it. Oh, and the pre-lit wreaths arrived – they need to be hung. Sunday means another drive into the city. The destination? Bari Zaki’s studio sale. I went last year for the first time, and was enchanted with the paper goodies. (see one example pictured above. Yes, I still have them. Too cute to part with just yet.) And don’t think for a second that I’m leaving without some more nonpareils. They were incredible! I’ve been looking forward to this event all year. After the sale, it’s a quick run to Southport Grocery for some fruit salad (and maybe just a few other things) and then it’s back to the fortress for holiday preparations …..
I’m sad that I won’t have enough time to visit the One of a Kind Show and Sale at the Merchandise Mart. So many cool artists will be there, including Orange Beautiful. If you’re in Chicago, check it out!
If you’re in the SF/Oakland area, Carrot & Stick Press is having a studio sale on Saturday from 10-4. Oh, please, someone go and report back. There’s bound to be something cute.
If the Twin Cities is home, I hear that Letterbox and Victory are having events as well. Please, call ahead since I do not have the particulars.
None of these working for you? Well, pour another cup of coffee and click on over to Simply Photo’s winter wonders shop. Lots to see and buy, like these gift tags. No shoveling required.
Feel free to add your own shopping info in the comments section. Small studio sales are a great way to find unique merchandise. And what could be better than that during the holidays?

yes, it’s snowing again here in Chicago. started tuesday night around 5pm. it’s pretty in photographs … we’ll see how i feel about it after shoveling ...
Once again, my cousin has forwarded the name of an incredibly gifted photographer. (Thank you tt!) David Bowman is a new favorite of mine, and not just because he’s from Minneapolis. Check out his portfolios, especially “end of land”, where you’ll find my favorite shot, the one of the lighthouse (4th from the left). If you live in the Twin Cities, you can check out his studio in the Northrup King building to see more of his work. If you don’t, like me, you can bookmark his journal, Aqua City, to keep up to date electronically. Love the entry featuring his shots from the Florida Keys …. they’re among his award winners.
Gorgeous work! Look forward to seeing more …..

Total denial is setting in. How can it be 21 days to Christmas? I was so on top of things, and now I’m kind of slowly falling behind. I have not even thought about Christmas cards yet. I have two packages to mail “up north”, which I am going to do this week, before the crazy post office lines become crazier. No tree yet. No wreaths on the front windows. (Okay, I get a pass on that one, because we’ve ordered them, but they haven’t arrived just yet.) And let’s not even talk about the elf who visits our home starting on the 15th. Arggggh!

Oh, well. Time to brew a cup of tea, and flip through Charleston Home’s winter issue. Loving the feature of Lisa Thomas’ home, photographed by Brie Williams. Lisa owns Out of Hand, a charming little shop which is now located in the Old Village area of Mt. Pleasant, SC, but used to be in an old schoolhouse in Beaufort, SC. I loved wandering through that shop during our frequent trips to the Beaufort area to see my in-laws. (I’ve made it to the Mt. Pleasant location once.) It was a nice treat to climb the old steps, and see wreaths, paper goods, gifts, and just take in the surroundings. Lisa’s Beaufort house was featured in a magazine some time back (I want to say Victoria, but I’m just guessing). I’m enjoying the peek into her new space. (I love old houses!) I wouldn’t mind of taste of Charleston weather right now, either …..
See you tomorrow!
