Good morning! Summer arrived with a vengeance yesterday ’round these parts. I went for my usual Tuesday run, and was much slower (and sweatier) than usual. Even my peppy playlist couldn’t push me along. Humidity is here. For a cool-down, I cut a few peonies for my first self-made bouquet of the season, pictured above …. I can’t believe I spend so much time waiting for my peonies to bloom, and then it’s all over in the blink of an eye. I’m trying to savor them by taking lots and lots of pictures.
There are two shop updates today that you should know about. First, Mav is updating her shop at noon EDT with some fun stuff to mark the Card Society birthday. I, for one, am not leaving for my Wednesday to-do’s until I’ve had a chance to check out the goods. Second, Martha from Uniform Studio is set to update her shop today as well. I am drawn to her clothing – the colors, the shapes, so lovely, and minimalist. Check out her fashions (and more) at her Flickr page. You may recall the wrapped dress as one of my favorites. Good luck, Martha, and happy shopping, all! Gotta love Etsy …. and for some synergy, Mav’s skirt in her 5/29 post is from Uniform-Studio! It’s a small world ….

Welcome to my new home at Blogger! I’m eager to start my second year of stationery, magazines, bottle reduction, etc ….. and whatever else pops into my head at 7am! Today also marks Maria’s Port2Port Card Society birthday. Maria’s blog is one of the reasons I started my own blog, so congratulations, Mav! Looking forward to many more months of Card Society shipments …..As far as the holiday weekend, soccer, rain, soccer, soccer, and soccer about covers it. Our peonies are gearing up for their burst (pictured above)…. we got new containers planted on the front porch, assembled a couple of Adirondack chairs, and finally ordered a larger table for the patio in the downtime.
Looking forward, I’m hoping to report on lots of stationery website updates now that the Show has passed. Check out Paper+Cup’s blog for a glimpse at their brand new office line launch, Communique. Loving what I see ….

Welcome, those of you who previously were reading “Midwest Musings.” I spent the better part of Friday morning trying to upload my entry, and realized that I was bailing water on a rapidly sinking ship. And thus, here I am – new name, The Speckled Egg, to better tie into my Flickr-ing, and new space. I will be learning the “how to’s” as I go, so hopefully, it will improve as the days pass.
Here are the Five:
- light #5
- wrap dress, wrapped (I am smitten with this dress)
- humpback whale
- … and this week …
- A Cuppa
Now, on with the holiday weekend, which means a lot of soccer watching if you are me. (Are you?) I will be back on Tuesday, which coincidentally marks one year of blogging! Time flies …..

I had planned for this week to be all about the Stationery Show, complete with photos and links to my favorites, but it isn’t happening. Perhaps it’s because I’m dying to see Paper + Cup’s new work line, and have heard zero about it to date. (I’m hoping it makes part two.) To fill my online time, I’ve been reading blogs, and discovering new-and-completely fabulous ones that will keep me online ever longer. Today’s finds are {frolic!} and Treats and Treasures. At {frolic!}, Chelsea’s pretty garden party will make you wish you were there. I read through the {frolic!} archives and loved it all – Chelsea and I have similar thoughts and fears about Victoria magazine’s relaunch. Next, it’s a hop, click and a jump over to Treats for a visual feast. Keeping a notebook like this would be fun to do, kind of an elaborate, artsy extension of my tear-sheet cutting and pasting. It motivates me to keep it up.
And for the other five Studio 60 fans out there, tonight begins NBC’s airing/dumping of the final six episodes. Tonight’s guest star is Allison Janney, who will always be CJ Gregg to me.

Grace had a very nice post yesterday about the Stationery Show (Part 1 today; Part 2 tomorrow). There were lots of pictures, so don’t miss it. A standout for me was Small Square Design: after clicking over to their site, I fell in love with their sweet greeting cards. Who wouldn’t like a Happy Birthday birdie card? or a sweet “more coffee” greeting? There are also journals and the most adorable gift tags. So many favorites; do check it out. I love simple drawings, and Small Square Design’s are great! (Don’t miss the dogs in the “about us” section.) Quite an impressive Stationery Show debut.
Also yesterday: Shari announced that she and two friends will be launching a zine in June with a cooking/kitchen theme. Intrigued, I followed her links to the website of her two friends. How did I not know about Louise Jennison’s gorgeous work before now? Her watercolors are amazing. I would love to hang one of her whale watercolors in my house, and I’ve been thinking about them since I discovered the site. They evoke some antique Japanese whale prints I ripped out of Domino recently for inspiration. Louise is based in Melbourne, so I owe a debt of thanks to Shari and the internet for the chance to see her work and become a fan from half a world away. Looking forward to the zine collaboration!
