Delayed Gratification

pink and red amaryllis | simple pretty

Over the weekend, the amaryllis bulbs in the living room bloomed! It’s nice to have some flowery color during January, especially since I am presently listening to the northwest winds blow against the house, rattling the downspout. It just makes you feel cold – snow or not. You can check out a better version of the photo at my Flickr page here. I was a busy bee yesterday – finally gave myself a Flickr buddy icon, and uploaded a few more pictures ….

Today, I am anxiously (and I think anxiously is the correct choice in this instance, grammarians) awaiting word from Apple about two products which may or may not be launching – the iPhone (want it!) and a super-thin laptop (want it!). Stay tuned …

3191 – photo blog

Welcome back, and Happy 2007! (actually, it’s more like happy back-to-school and back-to-normal) One of my favorite new things for 2007 is MAV (of Port2Port) and Stephanie’s (of Little Birds Handmade) new blog – 3191. They each post a morning photo, daily. Some days the photos are freakishly similar (see January 1 and 2), and sometimes they’re just lovely glimpses into the world, and who can’t use more of lovely? I am trying to become a better photographer, so I study photos, trying to figure out what it is that I like about them. There is much to like at this blog. Check it out here.

Bonus Friday Flickr Five

It’s oddly warm here this morning – I’d estimate near 50 – so not January weather. Kind of energizing to have spring weather when it should be bitterly cold. I’ve spent the past week slowly getting organized …. as I seem to do every January. (but this year I mean it!) No resolutions this year other than to do my best every day. Stole that one from Real Simple, but it felt right.

There is some lovely work this week at Flickr – take a look at my favorites:

  1. 3191 More on Maria and Stephanie’s fabulous new blog on Monday, but don’t you just love this?
  2. flea market loot love the colors
  3. snowflake tree remember snow?
  4. Little red robin
  5. untitled over the holidays, I became obsessed with French bulldogs.

Hope that your first weekend of 2007 is delightful! See you Monday: back to school = back to blogging.

Final 2006 Flickr Five

As the rain continues to fall, it’s hard to believe that Christmas is just three days away. I guess I’m getting a taste of SEattle living.

My Flickr Five are:

  1. the holiday approaches
  2. LD: litho skirt III, wool ballet top I want this!
  3. Caught in the Snow
  4. Whitetail in Snow
  5. Nantucket ocean kayaks (color)

I will be taking the holidays off from blogging to rest and recharge. I wish you the merriest of Christmases and a joyous new year. See you on the 8th!

Read and Laugh

It’s the winter solstice today, which means it only gets better, light-wise, from here. Hooray!

Today’s post features two items that should bring cheer to the darkest day of the year:

  1. Saying Yes to Mess Embrace your piles! Messiness is a sign of activity, or so sayeth the NYTimes. (of course, January is Get Organized Month, but who says you have to participate?)
  2. Stephen Colbert’s “Shred Off” challenge vs. Chris Funk of the Decemberists. Okay, most nights I struggle to stay awake until 10, but last night I battled my way to 11pm in order to catch this show in its debut. Did you see it? Totally worth the stay-awake effort. The number of cameos alone astounds. It will run again on Comedy Central today at 9:30, 1:30 and 7:30. (all times CST) Trust me – you will not be disappointed. And then at 8, you can egue into the rerun of The Office: A Benihana Christmas.

See you tomorrow for my final post of 2006!
