I’ve never been to Las Vegas. And until now, it wasn’t something I even considered for a vacation. (No judgment! I just like to go to bed before midnight, and I don’t like to lose money!) But now, with Prince playing 2 shows each weekend at his club 3121, I’m curiously considering it. It’s a two-hour show (starting at midnight, but everyone has to sacrifice at some point, right? and it would feel like 10pm!) full of hits …. I think I need to go. But when? And where to stay? Because let’s face it I’m picking the hotel based on shopping and spa services; not the casino. You can read more about Prince’s show as reviewed by the NYTimes at their website.
Note: I am clearly delusional – the concert would feel like 2am, not 10pm! I’d still like to see him play. Can I stay awake ‘til 4, though?
Here we are, at Friday again. This week, it was hard to winnow my Flickr favorites to just five – it seems that every time I logged on, I found, and found, and found. But the nominees are:
1. bare trees Always good to start with something from Simply Photo – she’s the best!
2. Hen Card Found a new letterpresser, from Chicago no less – Golden Hen Press – and I love this card.
3. very strange fog This is just lovely.
4. dizzying So welcoming, and so fall.
5. IMG_1092 Sesame Letterpress’ enchanting board filled with their work.
Have a great weekend – back on Monday!
Last year, one of my favorite holiday activities was visiting Starbucks’ holiday site, theredcup.com, and printing out recipes, decorating trees, and such. Well, starting today, Starbucks is back at it for Holiday 2006 – at a new address, www.itsredagain.com This year, it’s more personal and interactive. You can make and send a greeting, learn about traditions around the world (and submit your own) as well as participate in Cheer Pass. Oh, how I want a Cheer Pass! But I couldn’t get it to work on my mac this morning. I’ll try again later. Check it out here, and oh yeah, Happy Holidays!
Every day, without fail, I read Design*Sponge’s blog. Invariably, I learn something new; something fun. Today Grace is featuring some beautiful tiles by the artist Lee Hanson. The interesting part of the post (for me) is that they’re sold at Cursive New York – and Cursive New York has a blog! I just know I’d love the store – they carry so many of my favorite things, like Sesame Letterpress, John Derian, Paper + Cup design …. so until I get to New York, I’m going to enjoy their blog – it’s full of photos! Check it out here. See if you don’t stumble onto something new …
It’s going to be a big Christmas for Beatrix Potter. The movie, Miss Potter, starring Renee Zellweger, opens on December 29. And of course, this means one thing: product tie-ins are starting to show up in stores. Two books are calling to me: Beatrix Potter: A Journal (which is geared to age 6 and up – I’m covered!). It is full of illustrations, but more important, cute little envelopes that open, and other fun ephemera. The second book is Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature – a nearly 600 page story of her life, including previously unreleased illustrations. Haven’t seen the second book yet, but the first is enchanting! I’m trying not to buy stuff right now. It’s so hard! Hope that the movie gets good reviews. I’ve added it to my list!
