Friday Five

September!  The beginning of fall, the beginning of fabulous weather (that is more reliable) – the last weekend of summer.  Check out these five unrelated things before you head out to make the most of Labor Day weekend.

1.    Port2Port’s September Card Gorgeous, gorgeous letterpressed card – “love”.

2.    Photobird’s Pebbles & Shell photo Captures summer-into-fall perfectly …. (love the acorn)

3.    Emma Bridgewater’s Charm Bracelet pattern

4.    Winston Flower’s Rose Vibrance bouquet Wouldn’t it be nice to receive such a beautiful arrangement of roses?

5.    Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack”    The song that’s stuck in my head is the #1 download at iTunes.

Enjoy the three-day weekend!  See you Tuesday …..

Roberto Santos

Courtesy of my ever-hipper cousin, another great food photographer – Roberto Santos.  Loved the macaroni-and-cheese photo!  (Great website too, by the way)  Check him out at rsantosphotography.com.

And speaking of photos, last night I bit the bullet and opened a Flickr account.  So far, I’ve only posted one photo (of clam chowder – yes, more food) but I hope to add to the collection soon.  I’ve also selected some favorites from other Flickr members.  Search for me under “speckledegg”.

Rococo Chocolates

Original flavors and beautiful wrappers – that’s why I love Rococo Chocolates!  Chances are, you’ve seen them featured in a catalog or magazine without knowing it.  I know that Martha has used the wrappers from time to time as a nice bulletin board adornment.  And at Easter time, Rococo makes some beautiful hen and egg-shaped chocolates. Unfortunately, you cannot order directly from Rococo for USA shipment, but Bell’occhio in San Francisco, features the bars on their website.  It should soon be safe to ship chocolate without fear of melting ….  (I’d like to try the coconut or sea salt flavors.)

Eggpress

As you may know (ha ha), I am quite obsessed with letterpress stationery.  So, when a letterpress company is compiling a mailing list, you just know I need to be on it.  I registered a while ago with Eggpress, a Portland, OR company that makes the coolest (and cutest) stuff.  They are re-launching their site September 1, and will feature special products, as well as features of their employees and some retailers.  Doesn’t that sound like fun?  Yesterday, as “reward” for signing up, I received the above in the mail – some ultra-cute notecards, and the sweet letterpressed note.  I was #12 to sign up!  Visit eggpress.com – and be sure to go back on September 1 as well.

Another Two Bite the Dust ….

It’s no more for Shop, Etc or Weekend.  Both were closed by Hearst last week after the release of the latest circulation numbers.  Frankly, I’m not surprised.  Shop, Etc was no Lucky.  It had moved from “I might buy it” to “Whatever” on my radar.  And Weekend?  It never knew what it wanted to be.  I loved the Susan Spungen (formerly with Martha Stewart Living)  food articles, but the rest was eh.  Anyone could see this coming.  There should be lots more space on the newsstand with all the titles shuttered of late.  More room for the hairstyle magazines!
